Mass. Girls D1 Top 10
Only two teams remained in the same position in this week’s latest HNIB News Massachusetts Girls Division 1 Top 10.
One of course is #1 Austin Prep (13-0-0), which racked up three more wins, including Saturday’s 4-0 shutout over Notre Dame Academy. The Cougras travel to Matignon (Wednesday) and Barnstable (Saturday).
With Notre Dame’s three-loss week, Winthrop (7-0-1) is up to #2 this week. The Vikings’ only result was a 5-2 win over Beverly/Danvers. They are scheduled to see Latin Academy (Tuesday) and Shawsheen/Bedford (Saturday).
#3 Arlington (8-1-1) is back on track, extending its winning streak to five games with wins over Burlington, Winchester and Stoneham/Wilmington. Melrose is up on Wednesday and then a big one with Woburn on Saturday.
#4 St. Mary’s (6-2-2) opened its week with a tie against Andover (1-1) before a big win over Notre Dame (4-1) and one over Bishop Fenwick (3-0). A return match with Fenwick looms Wednesday.
Up to #5 this week is Shrewsbury (6-3-0). The Colonials avenged one of their losses Saturday with a solid 5-0 decision of Acton-Boxboro. Two key league tilts are up for this week with HPNA (Wednesday) and Billerica/Chelmsford (Saturday).
#6 Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading (7-2-1) outscored its three opponents this week by a combined 18-2 margin. They stay in league this week with Gloucester (Wednesday) and Beverly/Danvers (Saturday).
Notre Dame (3-3-2) drops down to #7 after successive losses to Hingham, St. Mary’s and Austin Prep. The Cougars look to rebound this week with two more tough ones against #8 Acton-Boxboro (7-2-0) on Wednesday and D2 heavy Sandwich on Friday.
The A-B Colonials also host Westford Academy on Saturday.
Holding firm at #9 are the Cape Cod Furies (6-1-1), who picked up wins this week over Old Rochester and Barnstable, and had a tie with Dennis-Yarmouth, who they play again on Monday. The Furies also have Sandwich (Wedneday) and Falmouth (Saturday).
Sliding in a #10 this week is HPNA (5-3-2), which had a big 5-4 win over Andover Saturday. Shrewsbury will be tough on Wednesday.
