Now two weeks into the 2021-2022 season, a handful of teams have established themselves as teams to be reckoned with amongst the Divison 1 hopefuls. Still, look for some additional clubs to make themselves known as the season goes on, as it looks like several D1 programs and getting their skates under them at this point.

Austin Prep was our pre-season #1 and nothing has changed there. The Cougars have sprinted out to a 4-0-0 start, outscoring opponents 29-0. They next hit the ice on December 31, hosting Shrewsbury.

#2 Notre Dame Academy is slow out of the blocks, having played just once, a 5-4 win over Pembroke. Things heat up this week, starting with Monday’s showdown with Duxbury in the first round of the Tenney Cup.

Arlington (2-0-0) moves up a rung following an impressive 4-1 conquest of #4 St. Mary’s Lynn. The Spy Ponders look ahead to a New Year’s Day battle with rival Woburn.

The Spartans, meanwhile, followed the loss to Arlington with a 4-1 win over Arlington Catholic. They host Matignon on Wednesday.

#5 Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading is off to a 3-1 start, the only blemish a loss to St. Mary’s. PLNR returns to action in a key Northeastern Hockey League battle with #6 Winthrop (3-0-0) on Wednesday. The Vikings have allowed just two goals in their three wins to date.

#7 Acton-Boxboro (3-0-0) had a strong start to the season, although they are currently on hold with the school’s athletic program shut down to after the New Year.

Two newcomers to the Top 10 are Hingham (2-1-0) at #8 and the Cape Cod Furies (2-1-0) at #10.
