Mass. Girls D1 Top 10
Hard to believe just four days remain in the 2021-2022 season. After a busy week of action, there was very little movement in the latest HNIB News Massachusetts Girls Division 1 Top 10.
#1 Austin Prep (20-0-0) had its biggest test, but survived Saturday with a 3-2 OT win over D2 power Duxbury. The Cougars also clinched the CCL Cup with wins over Bishop Fenwick and St. Mary’s. AP will see HPNA (Monday) and Barnstable (Thursday).
#2 Arlington (16-1-1) iced Wakefield (6-3) and finishes at the Hingham Showcase with games against Needham and Andover.
#3 Winthrop (15-0-1) added league wins over Medford/Malden, Masconomet and Gloucester. The Vikings have two games left as well, against Belmont (Monday) and Beverly/Danvers (Wednesday).
#4 Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading (14-3-1) finishes with Bishop Fenwick (Monday) and HPNA (Wednesday).
#5 St. Mary’s (12-5-3) followed a loss to Austin Prep in the CCL Cup final with a shutout win over Pope Francis. The Spartans will be at the Hingham Showcase as well, facing #6 Notre Dame Academy (8-5-3) and Duxbury, both tough tilts.
NDA edged #7 Acton-Boxboro (13-4-2) in their second matchup of the season. In addition to St. Mary’s, the Cougars are also scheduled to face Needham at the Hingham Showcase, and get Arlington Catholic on Monday.
A-B is also at Hingham against Reading and Winchester and faces off with Hanover (NH) on Monday,
#8 Shrewsbury (10-6-1) stopped a modest two-game losing streak with a win over Masconomet. The Colonials still have three left to play, including two at the Newburyport Bank Classic and a Thursday finale with Boston Latin.
HPNA (10-6-2) is back in at #9. It will take its shot against Austin Prep (Monday) and finish with PLNR.
The #10 Cape Cod Furies (13-4-3) had an up-and-down week that saw a win over Barnstable, a tie with Plymouth, and losses to Pembroke and Falmouth. The Furies close with Bishop Stang on Wednesday.
