Mass. Girls D1 Top 10
There was very little change in this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts Girls Division 1 Top 10. None of last week’s ten teams suffered a loss, although a couple did get put on the shelf with postponements.
#1 Austin Prep (4-0-1) flexed its offensive muscles, taking down Bishop Stang 6-2 and King Philip 8-3. On Tuesday, the Cougars have their second of three meetings with #3 St. Mary’s (4-1-1) in a key game of the week. They are also scheduled to face Bishop Feehan on Friday.
#2 Arlington (4-0-1) survived pesky Winchester, winning 3-2, and also downed Lexington (7-2).
After facing Austn Prep, the Spartans are busy with scheduled games against Shawsheen/Bedford (Wednesday), King Philip (Thursday) and Malden Catholic (Saturday).
#4 Woburn (3-1-1) posted wins over Reading (3-1) and Lexington (3-0) and is scheduled to face Lexington again Wednesday.
Despite having the week off, #5 Needham (3-0-0) remains put. The Rockets hope to take on Braintree twice this week – Wednesday and Saturday.
#6 Duxbury (7-0-1) has been able to play eight games already, tied for the most in Division 1. The Dragons suffered their first blemish Saturday in a 3-3 tie with Hingham. They look ahead to Marshfield (Wednesday) and Notre Dame Academy (Thursday).
#7 Andover (5-0-0) stayed perfect, edging #8 Billerica/Chelmsford (4-1-0), 2-1, in a Merrimack Valley Conference showdown, and beating Central Catholic. Methuen/Tewksbury (Tuesday) and HPNA (Saturday) are on this week’s docket.
B/C rebounded from the Andover loss with shutout wins over Central Catholic and Methuen/Tewksbury. They are scheduled to play HPNA on Wednesday.
#9 Waltham (3-0-0) was idle and looks to get back into game action soon.
#10 Lincoln-Sudbury (5-0-1) looked solid in wins over Boston Latin (5-1) and Cambridge (7-1). An interesting two-game set looms with Acton-Boxboro (Wednesday and Saturday).
