Spots three through 10 saw some shuffling in this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts Girls Division 1 Top 10.
Nothing new to report at the top, where #1 Austin Prep (10-0-0) rolled three opponents, including two Top 10 opponents, by a 24-2 margin. The Cougars have an interesting week ahead, hosting a good Natick team Monday, and after seeing Arlington Catholic on Wednesday, travel to #2 Notre Dame Academy (3-0-2) on Saturday.
The NDA Cougars returned to action this week and got immediately into the first, with close games against Needham (2-2 tie) and Natick (2-1 win). They face off with cross-town rival Hingham on Monday,
#3 Winthrop (6-0-1) is the beneficiary of others’ defeats. The Vikings put up a pair of 7-0 wins (Medford, Gloucester) to remain unbeaten. Winthrop, which as allowed just six goals this season, will be tested on Saturday at Beverly/Danvers.
#4 Arlington (5-1-1) rebounded from the loss to Austin Prep with shutout wins over league rivals Belmont and Reading. The Ponders face Burlington Monday before a biggie with unbeaten Winchester Wednesday.
Despite a Saturday loss to HPNA in OT, Acton-Boxboro (6-1-0) is up a bit to #5. The Colonials get Methuen/Tewksbury Wednesday before hosting another set of Colonials, #7 Shrewsbury (5-3-0) on Saturday.
Shrewsbury picked up a pair of wins this past week, downing Methuen/Tewksbury and Westford Academy,
St. Mary’s (4-2-1) stands at #6. The Spartans knocked off Bishop Stang after being humbled earlier by Austin Prep. SML has a huge contest Monday with Andover.
#8 Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading (4-2-1) drops a big after a loss to Malden Catholic in its only action. Three league tilts are up this week against Medford (Monday), Newburyport (Wednesday) and Masconomet (Saturday).
Back in the Top 10 this week is #9 Cape Cod Furies (4-1-0) which picked up wins over Nantucket and Mansfield/Oliver Ames/Foxboro. CC is at Dennis-Yarmouth on Monday.
#10 Hingham (4-4-0) rounds out the Top 10, ready for another crack at Notre Dame Academy on Monday.
