Gary Demopoulos has been covering prep school hockey for the HNIB News for over 30 years, and has been the editor of the HNIB News since 2005. A former sportswriter and news editor at the Woburn (MA) Daily Times Chronicle, he has been the HNIB News' key reporter for Mens Prep School hockey since 1988, as well as womens hockey, both at the prep school and high school levels. for almost 20 years. Gary also helps organize and oversee HNIB's many summer tournaments and festivals for scholastic players.

Coach: Nick Sama

MIAA Division: 2

After a challenging season that saw the Warriors play just four games, it will be up to the second and third year players to step into larger roles and help lead what hopefully will be an strong incoming class.

Offensively, seniors Olivia Boyd and Caroline Driscoll, and juniors Julia Jankowski and Diane Lee will have key roles.

Junior Sofia Hauser and junior Jenna Roseto are important cogs on defense, while junior Rozzy Carew-Lyons is back for another year in goal.

NEWTON CO-OP (2-5-2)

Coach: Scott Heslin

MIAA Division: 1

The Crush will look to be competitive in each and every game they play, developing some strong team chemistry along the way.

Sophomore Danielle Morrill (9 pts) will be a leader on offense, while senior Sam Mealey leads the charge on defense. Senior Camille Kouroriez is the team’s goaltender.

Ava Sullivan Framingham


Coach: Casey Diana

MIAA Division: 2

Not able to play at all last winter, the Flyers are excited to be back. The young players from the 19-20 season are now upperclassmen and will look to lead by example.

Sophia Tersoni Framingham

Three juniors will be instrumental in generating offense in Molly Clark, Sophia Tersoni and Amber Welch. New sophomore Mac Coleman and freshman Maggie Robinson will help out.

On defense, it will be a trio of seniors who look to get the job done in Ava Sullivan, Ryen Taylor and Brooke Anderson. Sophomore Alix Russo will be in the mix as well.

The goaltending chores will go to junior Mikai Frankin and new freshman Liz Luong.

Danielle Cimino Wellesley


Coach: Robert MacDougall

MIAA Division: 2

The Raiders enter a new era with coach MacDougall taking over as head coach, replacing PT Donato. He looks to continue the solid winning tradition Wellesley has enjoyed.

For scoring punch, he will look to a quartet of veteran seniors in Kaitlin Braun, Grace Flannery, Rowan Green and Morgan McGraw.

Senior Danielle Cimino will play defense this year; she has played up front in the past. Also back is junior Reese Griffen. Sophomore Magnus Saunders is a returning goaltender.

NATICK (9-0-1)

Coach: Bruce Ihloff

MIAA Division: 2

Abbreviated season aside, the Redhawks had a very successful 20-21 campaign, going unbeaten in their 10 games. They are ready to face any challenges this season.

The Redhawks have a group of forwards that will be tough to stop, led by senior captains Colleen Quirk and Caroline Gates. Freshman forwards to watch are Aidan Bell, Maggie Connors and Elizabeth Curley.

A talented defense features senior captain Hadley Green, senior McKenzie McDonald and junior Makenna Doucette.

Ellie Beigel, a freshman, gets the call in goal.



Coach: Kevin Burchill

MIAA Division: 2

Defense will be a strongpoint for the Wamps, who look for someone in the forward ranks to emerge as a go-to goal scorer.

That could be senior Maggie Burchill, junior Ella Woods or sophomore Savanah Littlewood, who will be offensive leaders.

On the back end, senior Maeve Holland, junior Kelsey Littlewood and junior Molly Witham will be keys.

New freshman Eva Surrette will battle for time in goal for Braintree.

Erika Stanton Needham

NEEDHAM (5-1-2)

Coach: Allisyn Furano-Foster

MIAA Division: 2

The Rockets made the most of last winter’s truncated season, losing just once in the eight games they got to play. They look to continue that success this year.

Needham’s two senior captains will be offensive catalysts with Maddie Ledbury and Maeve Hymovitz back in the fold.

Senior Erika Stanton will be a defensive backbone. A new starting goalie will emerge from pre-season workouts.

MILTON (3-3-1)

Coach: Matt Lodi

MIAA Division: 2

Emphasis on team defense and a strong forecheck will be vital to any success the Wildcats see this season.

Look for senior Anna Radley and sophomores Molly Lovett and Caelan Leddy to be leading the offensive attack for coach Lodi.

Senior Olivia Brennick and sophomore Jenna Nolan are back on defense and welcome in a pair of freshmen in Molly Murphy and Maggie Mullen.

In goal, sophomore Lila Chamoun was solid last winter in her starts (2.25 gaa).

Elena Govoni Walpole

WALPOLE (1-8-1)

Coach: Joe Verderber

MIAA Division: 2

Long-time head coach Vederber anticipates his club having some growing pains this winter, but they will strive to improve daily.

A group of six returning forwards to lead the way offensively include senior captain Jess Tossone, seniors Kate Devlin and Olivia Jimenez, and sophomores Elena Govoni, Kerin Birch and Katie Colleran. Freshman Cassie Burke could play up front or on the blue line.

Senior captain Bella Agahigian anchors the Walpole’s defensive unit. Sophomore Ava England is ready to contribute. Junior Maddy Clarke is a returning goaltender.

WEYMOUTH (7-5-0)

Coach: Kaleigh Fratkin

MIAA Division: 2

The Wildcats will be a team to keep an eye on. A host of young players got some solid varsity experience a year ago.

Senior Mairead O’Connell returns up front and will be a vital cog in the lineup, as will sophomore Wren Abboud and freshman Ella Bates, both key contributors to the score sheet last winter.

On the blue line, sophomore Isabelle Hajjar is back with a solid year of experience under her. Freshman Angelina Palmer will have a big responsibility as well.

Freshman Alyssa O’Connor will be battling for the starting goaltender’s position.
