When it was over, it was AC’s Cougars (11-0-1) that won out. Top-ranked AC, in a back-and-forth, defensive battle that the contest was expected to be, prevailed 2-0 to solidify its spot on the top of the poll.

Senior defenseman Erin Healy scored the only goal AC’s Cougars would need late in the first period, when her wrister from the slot clanged in off the post and past Austin Prep goalie Caty Flagg.

It stayed a 1-0 game until the final seconds of regulation, when Abby Knight sealed it for AC with an empty net goal after Austin (9-1-1) had pulled Flagg for an extra attacker.

AC goalie Jasmine Mucci recorded her seventh shutout of the season in the win.

Arlington Catholic is now 3-0 in the Catholic Central League, and Austin Prep 3-1. The two powers will meet again on February 20th (Ed Burns Arena, 6pm)
