A testament to the caliber of teams involved, there was no movement in this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts Girls Division 2 Top 10. Everything remains the same.
What more can you say about #1 Wellesley (15-1-0)? The Raiders took down D1 power Braintree (4-2) and then blanked Newton (7-0). Wednesday’s game against #6 Natick should be an interesting one.
#2 Canton (13-1-3) registered two more shutout wins over Mansfield/Oliver Ames (2-0) and King Philip (3-0). Road games loom Monday (Norwood) and Wednesday (Franklin).
#3 Westwood (13-3-2) had wins over Norwood (4-1) and Dedham (6-1). The Wolverines also had a game with #7 Notre Dame suspended after a power outage midway through the second period. Westwood has upcoming games with Medfield (Wednesday) and Hingham (Saturday).
#4 Norwell (14-2-0) had a quiet week, a win over Old Rochester (7-1) its only action. The Clippers look ahead to D1 Hingham (Wednesday) and Marshfield (Saturday).
#5 Dennis-Yarmouth (12-1-2) continued its success in low-scoring games, picking up a pair of 2-0 wins over Sandwich and Pembroke. The Dolphins, who have allowed just 16 goals this season, take on Falmouth Saturday in a game that will have Cape & Islands League title implications.
Heading into Wednesday’s tussle with Wellesley, Natick (13-4-0) appears to be firing on all cylinders with a pair of shutout wins of its own over Walpole and Framingham. A Friday night battle will Needham is also in the cards.
#7 Notre Dame Academy (11-5-1) had a pair of nice wins over D1 opponents Barnstable (4-0) and Duxbury (3-1). The Cougars host Milton on Saturday.
#8 Falmouth (8-3-4) downed Nantucket (6-1) and tied up Barnstable (3-3) this week. The Clippers have a huge week ahead, a home-and-home with Sandwich (Wednesday, Thursday) and then D-Y on Saturday in key league clashes.
#10 Sandwich (13-4-0) takes on Martha’s Vineyard Sunday afternoon before its two-game slate with Falmouth. The Knights had a solid 8-2 win over Bishop Stang Saturday.
