Mass. Girls D1 Top 10
Weather and a quiet week keep the top three teams intact in this latest HNIB News Massachusetts Girls Division 1 Top 10.
#1 Austin Prep (6-0-2) had a game with Longmeadow wiped out on Saturday, coming off an impressive 10-3 thumping of Hingham earlier in the week, a game that saw the Cougars pour in seven third period goals to bust open a close game.
A busy and testing week looms, with home games Monday against Franklin (a team that tied AP earlier in the season) and Saturday with Longmeadow, sandwiched around a Wednesday night date with D2 #1 Wellesley on Wednesday.
Wins over Natick (3-2) and Weymouth (8-0) pushed #2 Braintree to 10-0-1, officially clinching a tournament berth. This week has the Wamps seeing Milton (Wednesday) and Newton (Saturday).
#3 St. Mary’s (5-0-3) played just once as well, a 2-2 tie with stubborn Westford Academy. Looking ahead, the Spartans get Lexington at home on Monday, and travel to Arlington Catholic (Wednesday) and Archbishop Williams (Saturday).
New #4 Methuen/Tewksbury (6-1-3) notched two more wins, downing Billerica/Chelmsford (3-0) and Westford (4-3). A huge game looms Wednesday with #10 Boston Latin (5-1-3), followed by another tough one with Waltham on Saturday..
#5 HPNA (8-0-2) continues to impress, coming off a big 4-0 whitewashing of #8 Andover (6-2-3), which followed a big win over Peabody/Lynnfield/NR by a 5-1 count. They host Reading (Monday) than have Concord-Carlisle (Wednesday) and Central Catholic (Saturday).
#6 Arlington (6-1-2) played to a scoreless tie with new #9 Belmont (8-1-3) and then doubled up Wilmington (4-2). The Ponders have three home games this week, entertaining Longmeadow (Monday), Wincester (Wednesday in a makeup game) and then Burlington (Saturday).
#7 Woburn (8-1-1) continues to move up after solid wins over Winchester (4-1) and Wakefield (5-0) this week. The Tanners are off until a Saturday date with Watertown.
