While teams had a quiet holiday week from game-action, others took part in holiday tournaments. Still, there was enough action to shuffle this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts Girls Division 1 Top 10.
#1 St. Mary’s (2-0-1) blanked Peabody/North Reading/Lynnfield 3-0 on Saturday in its only action of the week, avenging a loss in last year’s post-season tournament. The Spartans have a huge contest scheduled for Monday against unbeaten #4 Arlington (3-0-0), which was off all week and then another tough non-leaguer vs Boston Latin Saturday.
#2 Austin Prep (1-0-2) also had the holiday week as it readies for Winchester on Monday. The Cougars then face Archbishop Williams on Saturday.
It was a grand week for #3 Braintree (6-0-0). The Wamps took the title at the Michael Giordano Christmas Classic with wins over Andover and Matignon, then on Sunday, took down unbeaten #6 Hingham by a 3-1 score. The Wamps don’t play again until a Saturday date with Framingham.
In addition to taking on St. Mary’s, Arlington will see Reading on Tuesday and Woburn Saturday in a tough week.
#5 Longmeadow (4-0-0) picked up a signature win Saturday with a 2-1 verdict of defending D1 state champion Methuen/Tewksbury. The Lancers look ahead to Quincy/North Quincy (Monday) and St. Peter Marian (Thursday).
Hingham (4-1-0) gave Braintree a battle. The Harborwomen will play Marshfield on Saturday.
#7 Andover (1-1-2) dropped a game to Braintree and were tied by Boston Latin at the Michael Giordano Christmas Classic. The Warriors get Lincoln-Sudbury Thursday and Billerica/Chelmsford Saturday.
