The top five teams in this week’s HNIB News Mass. Girls D2 Top 10 poll remained the same, as things went pretty much as expected over the last seven days.
That certainly goes for #1 Notre Dame of Hingham (12-2-0). The Cougars blanked Ursuline Academy (4-0) and then downed Fontbonne (6-2) by scoring five unanswered goals after trailing in the first period. Notre Dame has this week off, not returning to action until February 9th.
Also flexing their muscles was #2 Wellesley (9-1-0). The Red Raiders posted big wins over Newton North (6-1) and Walpole (5-0) to make it eight wins in row. Norwood provides Wednesday’s opposition, followed by the first of two season meetings with league rival Milton on Saturday.
#3 Tewksbury/Methuen (12-0-2) keeps chugging along. The Red Rangers picked up league wins over Lincoln-Sudbury (3-1) and Wayland/Weston (11-0). They stay in the league this week with games against Cambridge (Wednesday) and Boston Latin (Sunday).

Archbishop Williams (7-3-3) battled D1 power Arlington Catholic again before falling 3-1 on Saturday. The #4 Bishops don’t play until Saturday when they get another tough opponent in Austin Prep. ABW’s three losses? (2 to AC and 1 to Austin).
#5 Winchester (9-4-0) had another solid week. The Sachems earned their third straight shutout in a win over Melrose (4-0) and then knocked off D1 rival Woburn Saturday (5-4) behind two goals and two assists from Melissa Zavez. Winchester stays with solid D1 foes this week with games against Lexington (Tuesday) and Reading (Saturday).
#6 Milton (8-3-2) outslugged Weymouth with a football-like 12-7 win and then beat Natick (3-1). The Wildcats have a key game with Walpole (Wednesday) before taking on Wellesley (Saturday).
The Ducks of Fontbonne Academy (7-5-1) hold steady at #7. They hung with top-ranked Notre Dame Saturday for awhile before falling 6-2. Previous to that, the Ducks beat Westwood (3-1). Sunday, Fontbonne rallied for a 5-2 win over Framingham. They look ahead to Weymouth (Thursday) and Ursuline Academy (Saturday).
Make it nine straight wins for #8 Burlington (9-3-0). The Lady Devils picked up wins over Lexington (2-1) and Watertown (7-0) this week and look ahead to Melrose (Wednesday) and Stoneham (Saturday).
#9 Matignon (11-0-3) cruised over Shawsheen (10-0) in its only game of the past week. The Warriors put their undefeated record on the line Thursday against Wayland/Weston and then Saturday against Leominster/St. Bernard’s.
Making its poll debut this week at #10 is Pembroke (11-2-0). The Titans, who have won six in a row, five via shutout, have outscored opponents 59-11. This week they get Plymouth on Wednesday.
Lurking outside the poll are Walpole (7-4-1), Medfield (9-2-0), and Plymouth (9-3-0).
