Mass. Girls Division 2 Poll
|1||Notre Dame (Hing.)||1||10||2||0|
Notre Dame of Hingham continued its torrid play with a pair of big wins over solid D1 opponents in Hingham (5-0) and Barnstable (7-1). Thus, there is no reason for the Cougars to drop from the #1 spot in the latest HNIB News Mass. Girls D2 Top 10 poll.
The Cougars will be in league play this week, taking on Ursuline on Thursday, and then an interesting matchup with Fontbonne on Saturday.
Due to the inclement weather Saturday, #2 Wellesley (7-1-0) played just once this week, a 5-2 decision of Dedham, for the Red Raiders sixth straight win. Last year’s D2 state finalist looks to keep the win streak going this week against Newton North (Wednesday) and Walpole (Saturday).
#3 Archbishop Williams (7-2-3) gave Austin Prep all it could handle in a 2-1 loss, and then tied St. Mary’s 2-2 in Catholic Central League play. The Bishops, who had Saturday’s game with Longmeadow postponed, are off until next Saturday when they take on Arlington Catholic.
#4 Tewksbury/Methuen (10-0-2) is still unbeaten. The Red Rangers edged past Andover on Saturday (2-0) after a 3-3 tie with Concord-Carlisle earlier in the week. T/M gets Lincoln-Sudbury (Wednesday) and Wayland/Weston (Saturday) this week.
Moving up a spot is #5 Winchester (7-4-0). The Sachems were quite dominant this week outscoring Wakefield and Wilmington to the tune of 15-0. Melrose is on tap for Wednesday, then a battle with rival Woburn on Saturday.
A Thursday game with Framingham was postponed to January 31, but #6 Fontbonne (5-4-1) opened some eyes with Saturday’s 1-1 tie with Arlington Catholic. The Ducks will tangle with Westwood Thursday before challenging top-ranked Notre Dame this Saturday.
#7 Milton (6-3-2) drops down after losing Saturday to Needham (8-3). The Wildcats take on Weymouth (Wednesday) and get Natick (Saturday).
#8 Walpole (6-3-1) also played just once due to weather, but it was a win, 2-1 over Natick. The Rebels tackle Framingham (Wednesday) before the big one Saturday with Wellesley.
Don’t look now, but Burlington (7-3-0) has won seven straight games, most recently a 1-0 decision over Arlington. That gets the Lady Devils into this week’s poll. A crucial game looms with Lexington (Wednesday) followed by a tilt with Watertown (Saturday).
#10 Matignon (10-0-3) tied Central Catholic in its only action of the week. The Warriors get Stoneham on Wednesday.
