Mass. Girls D1 Top 10: Final week’s games will have a role in post-season seeding

The regular season enters its final week and each of the contenders still have games to play many taking part in the Hingham Hockey Showcase. It will be interesting to see how things play out this week, which will determine the post-season seedings and see who gets matched up with who in a specific bracket.

As for this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts D1 Girls Top 10, Bay State League Carey Division champion Needham (19-0-1) takes over at #1. The Rockets offense took off this week with wins over Shrewsbury (6-3), Wellesley (6-3) and Newton North (9-1).

Needham has just one regular season game left, and it’s a doozy, a showdown Monday morning with D2’s top team, unbeaten Notre Dame.

Austin Prep (13-2-2) clinched the Catholic Central League title with Saturday’s 3-1 win over St. Mary’s, moving the Cougars back up to #2. Remaining Games: Cougar Classic Tuesday vs. Milton, Thursday vs. either Notre Dame or Plymouth, Saturday vs. East Catholic.

#3 Beverly/Danvers (17-0-3) rolls along with three straight shutout wins over Arlington (2-o) Plymouth (6-0) and Peabody/Lynnfield (5-0). Remaining Game: Wednesday vs. Wellesley.

#4 Woburn (17-2-1) fell 3-2 to Reading its its rematch and after beating Lexington Saturday (5-1), notched a co-title of the Middlesex League Liberty Division. Remaining Game: Thursday vs. Hanover, NH.

#5 Reading (15-2-1) got its share of the ML Liberty Title with Saturday’s 5-1 win over Belmont. Remaining Games: Hingham Showcase Tuesday vs. Braintree, Thursday vs. Andover.

#6 Westford Academy (15-2-1) is in the midst of a 10-game winning streak after victories over Masconomet (4-2) and Wayland/Weston (5-2). Remaining Games: Hingham Showcase Tuesday vs. Hingham, Thursday vs. Duxbury.

#7 St. Mary’s (12-3-3) fell to Austin Prep Saturday (3-1) and were tied by Quincy/North Quincy earlier in the week. Remaining Games: Hingham Showcase Tuesday vs. Acton-Boxboro, Thursday vs Braintree.

#8 Duxbury (9-4-4) moves up a spot even though it was idle this week. Remaining Games; Monday vs. Walpole, Hingham Showcase Tuesday vs. Andover, Thursday vs. Westford Academy.

#9 Boston Latin (16-2-3) responded from a 3-2 loss to Tewksbury/Methuen with a win over Concord-Carlisle (3-0). Remaining Game: Thursday vs. Latin Academy

Hingham (10-5-5) holds down the #10 spot, fresh off Sunday’s 5-2 win over Braintree. Remaining Games: Hingham Showcase Tuesday vs Westford Academy, Thursday vs. Arlington
