Top-ranked Austin Prep and Arlington Catholic continued their winning ways this week, as they head to their second showdown of the season this Saturday, February 20 at Ed Burns Arena. The winner will get the Catholic Central League title.

#1 Austin Prep (14-1-1) had wins over Duxbury (2-1) and Westwood (3-1). The Cougars head to the Cougar Classic in Rockland this week, playing Longmeadow (Tuesday) and then either Notre Dame or Milton (Thursday) prior to travelling to AC.

#2 Arlington Catholic (14-1-1) got back to its winning ways with a solid 4-0 win over Hingham Saturday. AC will play Tuesday (Westford Academy) and Thursday (Andover) at the Hingham HS Girls Hockey Showcase.

Up a spot to #3 this week is Bay State Carey division champion Needham (15-1-2). The Rockets blanked Dedham (3-0) and Newton North (2-0). They are off until Saturday when they take on Archbishop Williams.

Girls-Festival-Ad-300x250#4 Billerica (13-3-3) was winless this past week to drop a spot, getting tied by Acton-Boxboro (1-1) and losing Saturday to Beverly/Danvers (2-0). The Indians close up their regular season Monday when they host Wakefield.

After losing to Reading (2-1), #5 Woburn (15-4-0) slipped past Lexington 1-0 on Saturday. The Tanners have non-league games this week against Lincoln-Sudbury (Wednesday) and Chelmsford (Friday).

#6 Duxbury (10-4-2) had lost three straight games before rebounding with a 4-1 win over Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake Saturday. The Dragons have a tough week, seeing Reading (Tuesday) and Westford Academy (Thursday) at the Hingham Showcase, then D2’s #1 team, Notre Dame of Hingham, on Saturday.

Strong play has moved defending state champion Reading (12-5-1) up to #7. The Rockets edged Woburn (2-1) and then beat Belmont (8-1) to clinch the Middlesex League Liberty Division title. They hope to continue their success Tuesday against Duxbury, and on Thursday against Acton-Boxboro, two ranked clubs.

Beverly/Danvers (14-5-0) inches up a spot to #8 after the big 2-0 win over Billerica, that coming on the heels of a 3-0 win over Winthrop/Lynn. The Panthers play Wednesday against Lexington and then Saturday versus Algonquin/Hudson.

#9 Haverhill/Pentucket/North Andover (12-2-5) continues to win close games, taking wins over Cambridge (3-0) and Lincoln-Sudbury (2-1). HPNA has a big game Monday against D2 power Tewksbury/Methuen to close out the regular season.

And returning to the HNIB News Mass. Girls D1 poll is Acton-Boxboro (9-4-4) at #10. The Colonials tied Billerica (1-1) and then tied six-time defending New Hampshire state champ Hanover (2-2). They get host Hingham Tuesday at the Showcase and then Reading Thursday in a rematch of last year’s D1 state final.
