There have been tournaments galore during the holiday week. A reminder that games decided in OT or by Shootout count as regular-season ties under MIAA guidelines.
CHRISTIE SERINO CHRISTMAS CLASSIC
St. Mary’s of Lynn (2-1-3) claimed the crown with a 2-1 shootout win against Hingham (2-2-2). Freshman Brady Carpenter had the decisive goal. The Spartans’ Nico Scalli and Hingham’s Marshal Terres scored in regulation. St. Mary’s senior goaltender Kevin McMullen had 24 saves, wrapping up Tournament MVP honors.
In the semifinals, St. Mary’s toppled Catholic Central League foe Austin Prep for the first time in six years, 3-2. McMullen had 25 saves while Damon Maribito, Colin Reddy and Nick Napolitano netted goals. Hingham advanced with a 2-1 shootout win against Malden Catholic with Terres deciding it.
In the consolation game, Austin Prep (4-2-0) pulled away from host Malden Catholic (0-2-1), 5-1. Cougars’ senior J.J. Harding scored twice and added an assist.
ISLAND CREEK OYSTERS CUP
It took 11 rounds in the shootout before sophomore Will Van der veen lifted Duxbury (2-2-2) past Braintree (1-1-2), 3-2. Sophomore goalie Steve Pisani made 10 shootout saves. Sophomores Donovan O’Neil and Tanner Smith had the Green Dragons’ regulation goals while senior Dara Canavan connected twice for the Wamps.
Zack Stewart had a pair of goals and Nate Romanelli had 20 saves to drive the Dragons past Bridgewater-Raynham in the semifinals, 4-0. Defenseman Kyle Roche’s second goal of the game came in OT and pushed Braintree past Natick in the other semi, 3-2.
Natick (5-0-1) handled Bridgewater-Raynham (2-4-0) in the consolation, 3-0. Dillon Arno had two goals.
CATHOLIC MEMORIAL CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT
Host CM (2-1-0) nursed a 1-0 lead through two periods before erupting for six third-period goals in a 7-0 win against Bishop Fenwick (1-4-1). Brendan Clancy had the shutout for CM.
Clancy had 25 saves in a 5-0 semifinal win against Bergen Catholic of New Jersey. Five players scored. Bishop Fenwick knocked off D2 Bishop Feehan, 2-1, on Nick Durbano’s third period game-winner. Nick Muzi also scored for the Crusaders.
Bergen Catholic shut down Bishop Feehan in the consolation, 3-1.
Freshman Robbie Barletta’s late power play goal was the difference as Xaverian (3-0-1) edged host Framingham (2-4-1), 3-2, in the title game. Josh Barton had a goal and an assist for the Hawks and Ryan Pomposelli also scored. Nate Nichols and Evan Dunlop scored for the Flyers.
Xaverian advanced with a rousing 4-3 semifinal win against St. John’s of Shrewsbury. Ross Vona (assist) had the game-winner and Pomposelli scored twice for the Hawks. St. John’s Matt Myers tied it with one second left in regulation. Dylan Carrafiello had the shootout winner as Framingham tripped Marshfield, 3-2.
St. John’s (3-1-1) shut down Marshfield (2-1-2) in the consolation, 3-0, behind 30 saves from Corey Splaine. The GWG came from Jack Brosnihan with just 2:45 played.
TOM (UNKIE) FITZGERALD CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT
Waltham (4-0-1) toppled Matignon (4-1-1) for the title, 3-1, in a battle of unbeaten teams. Tournament MVP Kyle Penton turned back 24 shots in the Waltham goal and Andrew Miller connected for goals in the second and third periods for the Hawks. Declan Reynolds had a goal and an assist. Brian Shaughnessy scored for Matignon.
In the semifinals, Waltham knocked off D2 Methuen, 5-2. Penton stopped 22 shots, Reynolds scored two goals and Shane Devlin delivered two assists. Will Jennings’ four goals pushed Matignon past Cambridge, 5-3.

Melrose (4-2-0) claimed the Kasabuski Christmas Classic title against D2 North Reading, 7-2 … Lexington (5-2-0) won the Battle Road Classic crown against CMass foe Wachusett (2-1-1), 3-1 … Belmont (3-1-2) completed a 2-0-1 showing at the Tuscan Kitchen Blue Devil Classic with a 10-1 rout of Exeter, NH. The Marauders also knocked off Pinkerton (NH) Academy, 2-1 and tied reigning two-time Maine Class A State Champion Lewiston, 2-2 … Franklin (4-1-0) got off to a good start in the Mount St. Charles Holiday Faceoff with a 4-2 win against LaSalle College of Pennsylvania.
Undefeated Burlington (5-0-0) bounced Barnstable (3-2-0), 4-1, behind two goals each from senior captain Frankie Bonanno and junior Joe Barbieri.
Newburyport (3-1-2) senior Matt Babcock delivered two game-winners less than 24 hours apart. He had the lone goal in a 1-0 win against Winchester on Dec. 27 and had the decisive strike in a 4-2 win against Pentucket on Dec. 28. Clippers’ senior captain Ken Hodge had a 27-save shutout against Winchester, senior Owen Bradbury netted two goals against Pentucket and junior Cade Beauparlant dished out three assists in the two games.
Al Arno had a hat trick and David Mega had the GWG as Natick knocked off Winchester, 5-4. Dillon Arno also scored for the Red Hawks.
