Mass. D1 Boys Highlights: BC High blanks Malden Catholic for third straight shutout

*In the Catholic Conference, Joe Dragon and Danny O’Connell both had a goal and an assist and Tommy Kramer added an ENG as No. 4 BC High took down No. 15 Malden Catholic, 3-0. Eagles’ junior Luke Garrity notched his third consecutive shutout.

*Also in the Catholic Conference, junior goalie James Herring had the shutout at No. 9 Xaverian shut down No. 16 Catholic Memorial, 3-0. Ryan Pomposelli goals in the first and third periods sandwiched C.J. Monturio’s strike in the second for the Hawks.

*No. 11 Hingham knocked No. 5 Burlington from the unbeaten ranks with a 3-1 win on home ice. Jake Quilty scored the power play game-winner with 2:30 to play and Marshal Terres tacked on an ENG. Jacob Clark also scored on the power play.

*In a Middlesex League Liberty Division clash, No. 12 Reading stopped Belmont, 4-1, as Mike Tobin continued to sizzle with two goals. Matt Coughlin turned back 20 shots for the win. Dan Cranitch and Matt Fiorenza also scored for the Rockets.

*In Bay State crossover play, No. 19 Walpole squeezed past Framingham, 2-1, on goals from Robert Colburn and Conor Foley.

Braintree

*In non-league action, Braintree picked up a much-needed win with a 1-0 decision of Barnstable. Dara Canavan had the Wamps’ goal and Owen Cuddyer posted his third straight shutout.

*In the Catholic Central Large, No. 6 Austin Prep rode Nick Cafarelli’s hat trick to a 6-2 win against a solid Matignon club.

*Also in the Catholic Central Large, Archbishop Williams surprised No. 9 St. Mary’s, 3-1, behind a pair of Matt Shea goals (PPG, ENG) in the third period. John Barry also connected for the Bishops.

*In the Cape Ann League, Newburyport climbed out of a two-goal hole with three third-period tallies for a 3-3 tie with Masconomet. Ethan Coir tied it with 1:27 to play for the first-place Clippers. Jacob Grossi-Hogg and Cole Spence also scored.

*In a Patriot League crossover, Duxbury shut out North Quincy, 6-0, on goals by Ben Cheney, Aidan Luscko, Will Van der veen, Drew Violandi, Friend Weiler and Ben Luscko.
