In Wednesday night’s second marquee intersectional match-up of Top 10 teams, No. 6 Arlington Catholic (7-0-1) took down No. 9 St. John’s of Shrewsbury (7-3-1), 6-3, at Ed Burns Arena.
Trailing, 3-2, the Cougars unleashed a closing four-goal burst for the win behind goalie John Richard’s 27 saves. Eighth-grade defenseman Max McKay made his presence know Wednesday night, netting a natural hat trick to go along with an assist in No 16 St. Mary’s (7-4-1) 8-1 non-league romp past Coyle & Cassidy.
Resurgent Winchester (4-2-4), unbeaten in its last six, toppled Belmont, 4-0, in the Middlesex Liberty behind Brendan Greene’s two goals.
No. 18 Wilmington (6-1-4) continued its stellar D-1 debut campaign, stretching its unbeaten streak to 10 games with a 2-1 decision of Stoneham in the Middlesex Freedom. Austin O’Neal and Cody McGowan scored and Drew Foley had 25 saves.
Westford (3-3-2) halted a two-game skid with a 5-2 MVC/DCL One decision of Andover. Jay Drapeau (2 goals, assist), Ryan Hesseltine (2 goals) and Cam MacDonald (goal, 2 assists) sparked the offense and Kyle Martin made 27 saves.
In Bay State Carey play, Dan Jacobs (2 goals, assist) powered Needham (4-6-0) past slumping Braintree (5-4-1).
