After winning three straight Mass. Division II titles, Duxbury opted to make the move up to Division I this winter. There was little doubt the Dragons would be very competitive at their new level, but there were some observers who wanted to see how they would fare moving up.
It didn’t matter. Duxbury (17-1-6) won its fourth straight state title earlier this month, edging pre-season #1 Arlington Catholic, 2-1, at the TD Garden.
So, the Dragons end in the #1 spot in a poll for the fourth year in a row.
Arlington Catholic (19-3-2) ends at #2, having made its third straight visit to the Division I state final. The Cougars finish just ahead of #3 Acton-Boxboro (21-3-0), which was ranked #1 heading into the post-season in the HNIB News poll, but fell to Duxbury in the semifinal round.
A strong post-season push, including wins over Reading and Beverly/Danvers, propelled Austin Prep (15-6-2) to the #4 spot in the final poll.
