It was smooth sailing for #1 Winthrop as they took down #24 Ashland 7-0 in a Division 4 Elite 8 match-up at Stoneham Arena. Fueled by Petey Silverman (3G, 3A) and Philly Boncore (2G, 4A), the Vikings cruised into the final four.

Junior Mikey Holgersen also scored twice for the Vikings who have scored a whopping 22 goals in their first three postseason games. Winthrop moves on to the semi-finals to face #5 Dover-Sherborn/Weston Saturday afternoon at 2:30 pm at Gallo Ice Arena.

* Dover-Sherborn/Weston came out on top of a strong Sandwich squad 2-1. Patrick Benson and Max Niit each scored to send them to the final four to take on Winthrop on Saturday. Senior captain goalie Andrew Goldstein was the star of the show. Goldstein had 35 saves and eclipsed 2,000 career saves in the game.

Stoneham’s Chris Giachetto plays some solid D

* #10 Stoneham took down #2 Nantucket in impressive fashion as the Spartans continue to show why they are a threat. The Spartans got goals from sophomore Michael Taranto (2), Cosmo Ciccarello and Cam Shinnick. Senior Noah Dinan was outstanding in goal with 29 saves. The Spartans punched their ticket to the final four and will await the outcome of tonight’s Norwell and Hanover game to see who they draw.
