* Wednesday’s premier match-up pitted Independent No. 1 Pope Francis (4-0-0) against No. 4 St. Mary’s of the Catholic Central Large (3-1-1) and while the host Spartans scored first and last, they couldn’t completely clamp down the Cardinals’ potent attack. Sophomore Ryan Leonard’s natural hat trick spanning the second and third periods powered Pope Francis, which also got goals from seniors Brandon Spaulding and Evan Phaneuf. Sophomore Brady Bullock and senior Colby Magliozzi scored for St. Mary’s.

*In the Middlesex Liberty, Winchester (3-1-1) registered a significant 5-2 win against No. 12 Arlington (1-3-0). Senior Angelo Mario scored twice while senior defensemen Jack Riley and Nick Ciaccio and junior defenseman Liam Doherty had a goal apiece for the Sachems. The teams meet again next Wednesday.

* Also in the Middlesex Liberty, unbeaten No. 8 Belmont (4-0-1) rallied past Reading, 2-1, on senior A.J. Rainey’s game-winning goal late in the second half. Sophomore goalie Ryan Griffin had 24 saves for the Marauders. Senior captain Charlie Miele staked the Rockets (0-2-1) to a 1-0 lead with a first-half goal. Declan Harrington had the first Marauders goal.

* In Bay State Herget Division play, Milton (0-1-1) clawed back from a pair of two-goal deficits to tie No. 9 Braintree (2-0-1), 3-3. Milton’s sophomore goalie Ryan Dexter finished with 33 saves while junior forwards Eion Flaherty and Owen Radley and senior defenseman Luke Calcagno had the Wildcats’ goals. Sophomore Nolan Leonard, junior Danny Keegan and sophomore Charlie DiMartino scored for the Wamps.

*Unbeaten No. 13 Archbishop Williams (5-0-3) of the Catholic Central Large kept rolling along with a 4-0 whitewash of D3 Bishop Stang. Senior Conor Kelly, senior Nick Recupero, senior James O’Toole and sophomore Shamus O’Toole scored for the Bishops and freshman Brendan Carberry posted the shutout.

*Senior defenseman Ronan Mulkerrin scored twice, steering undefeated No. 6 Hingham (5-0-0) past long-time rival (Marshfield (1-1-2) in Patriot League play. Sophomore Billy Jacobus (first career goal), senior Lars Osterberg and junior Sean Garrity also scored. Sophomore Brady Clark and junior Dan Kane accounted for the Rams’ goals.

Falmouth

*In the Cape Ann League, Newburyport (2-0-1) cruised past Hamilton-Wenham, 6-0, limiting the Generals to 11 shots on goal. Senior keepers Jackson Marshall and Tristan Vincent shared the shutout. Seniors Ryan Archer and Owen Spence both scored two goals and seniors John Donovan and Zach Wilson had one each.

*In Cape & Islands Atlantic Division action, Falmouth (2-0-0) dominated Nauset, 7-0, behind senior Stone Devlin’s hat trick. Junior Daren McDonald scored twice while senior Harry Hennessy and freshman Charlie Bardellis had a goal each and senior Gunnar Stevens notched the shutout.
