The final re-alignment for Massachsetts Boys HS hockey was released today by the MIAA.

With the elimination of sectional tournaments (Central, West, North, South etc), the MIAA has adopted a state-wide tournament format and broken down schools into four divisions, each of which will have a state champion. There was plenty of movement from where some schools were aligned  the past several years.

The state-wide tournaments (no Super 8 this year) will consist of the top 32 teams in each division based on a new power rating system being used by the MIAA. If there are any teams that finish .500 or better and not rated in the Top 32 at the end of the season, that school will also qualify and get a preliminary game.

Division 1 will consist of 50 teams total.

New to Division 1 this year are Attleboro, Bishop Feehan, Brookline, Durfee, Everett, Lincoln-Sudbury, North Andover and Wachusett Regional.

Past Division 1 teams that are now in Division 2 this year are:

Duxbury

King Philip

Medford

Melrose

Newburyport

Walpole

Division 2 will have 42 teams. Division 3 consists of 49 teams and the Division 4 will have 53 teams.

Some other notable moves:

Danvers, Lowell Catholic, Lynnfield, Medfield, Medway, Pembroke, Scituate and Triton Regional are now in Division 3.

Division 2 teams in the past, Dedham, Sandwich, Stoneham and Winthrop are all now in Division 4 for the upcoming season.
