#5 Dover-Sherborn/Weston (20-4-0) is heading to the TD Garden after knocking off #1 seed Winthrop 2-1 in a shootout Saturday afternoon at Gallo Ice Arena.

Braden McKenna

Winthrop scored the game’s first goal in the first on a snipe by Petey Silverman, but Dover-Sherborn/Weston responded in the second with a short-handed goal by junior Brayden McKenna to even the score.

Andrew Goldstein

Both teams continued to grind it out with DS-W’s goalie Andrew Goldstein (43 saves) and Winthrop’s Michael Donohue both locked in.

The score remained 1-1 at the end of regulation sending the teams into a do-or-die overtime to decide who goes to the Garden. One overtime wasn’t enough, which sent the game into double overtime and though both teams had their chances, it had to go to a shootout.

Dover-Sherborn came out on top in the shootout after Goldstein made an awesome stop on Winthrop’s Billy Hayes to send them to the TD Garden for a chance at the state title.

They will take on the winner of Sunday’s Hanover vs. Stoneham game Sunday at the TD Garden in the MIAA Division 4 state title game.
