The 2022-2023 regular season has come to a close, and it was an interesting precursor to watch should be a thrilling MIAA Boys Division 1 tournament.

The MIAA is slated to announce the tournament pairings Saturday morning.

The top handful of teams in the HNIB News Boys Division 1 Top 20 are so close you can literally throw a blanket over them. It should make for some great games in March.

For this final regular season Top 20, defending champion St. John’s Prep (17-2-1) moves into the #1 spot. The Eagles closed the season with a 5-1 win over #11 Franklin.

#2 Hingham (14-3-5) had held the top spot, but fell to suddenly surging BC High in the Buddy Ferreira Classic final (2-0) on Thursday. Nevertheless, expect the Harbormen to be right in the thick of things as they usually are.

#3 Catholic Memorial (17-2-1), which lost to Hingham earlier this year, is ready for a big post-season. Same goes for #4 Pope Francis (16-2-4), coming off a title in the Cardinal Classic this week, which included an 8-3 triumph over #10 Belmont.

Xaverian (12-8-0) moves up to #5 thanks to a 2-1 win Thursday over #6 Marshfield (18-2-2).
