It ended where it began for St. John’s Prep. Ranked #1 in Division 1 pre-season prognostications, the Eagles close out the season in the same spot, at the top of the perch for the second time in three seasons.

#2 Winchester caught fire in the post-season, advancing all the way to the state championship game against the Prep with some memorable wins. Who knows what would have happened in overtime if the call on SJP’s winning goal at the end of regulation play was reversed. Nevertheless, it was a great season for the Red & Black.

#3 Xaverian reached the semifinals, where it fell to league rival St. John’s Prep for the third time this season. With a solid nucleus of juniors, the Hawks should be a force to be reckoned with again next winter.

#4 Catholic Memorial had a couple of solid wins early in the tournament, but fell victim to the Winchester buzzsaw in the quarterfinal round.

Arlington‘s season ended in the Round of 16, a heart-breaking double OT loss to Winchester. The Spy Ponders end up at #5.

Defending champion Pope Francis also reached the Round of 16 where the Cardinals were eliminated by upstart Arlington Catholic.

Public powers Hingham, Marshfield and Reading hold down the 7, 8 and 9 spots in our final HNIB News Massachusetts Boys Division 1 Top 20.

Rounding out the top ten is Archbishop Williams. The Bishops’ hope for a long tournament run was derailed in their first tournament game by Weymouth.
