It was another crazy week of action in the Mass. Division 1 boys ranks, and if it shows us anything, it is that if you don’t bring your A game in the playoffs, no matter who you are playing, you could be in trouble.

For this week, Pope Francis (11-5-0, 11-4-0 MIAA) returns to the #1 spot in the HNIB News Massachusetts Division 1 Boys Top 20. The Cardinals blanked Hingham, 3-0, in its only action of the week. They are off until Friday, when the face Northwest Catholic (CT) in the first round of the Pope Francis Invitational.

#2 Xaverian (11-4-0) won both of its contests, down St. John’s (S) and Malden Catholic. The Hawks will see Barnstable on Wednesday.

Up a spot to #3 in Archbishop Williams (13-2-0). The Bishops finished a perfect Catholic Central League slate with wins over St. Mary’s and Bishop Fenwick. Williams has a big one on Wednesday against Catholic Memorial.

It was a tough week for #4 St. John’s Prep (12-3-0). The Eagles dropped a pair, to Catholic Memorial (2-1) and Arlington Catholic (3-1). They look to right the ship this week against St. Mary’s (Wednesday) and Newburyport (Saturday).

Catholic Memorial (9-5-3, 9-4-3 MIAA) is at #5. The Knights had a 2-2 tie Saturday with BC High. After seeing Archies on Wednesday, CM gets Falmouth on Saturday.

#6 Marshfield (14-2-2, 13-2-2 MIAA) advanced to the Burns Tournament final with Sunday’s 4-1 takedown of Tewksbury. The Rams are off until Saturday when they see Pembroke, and then Franklin is up on Sunday.

#7 Reading (12-4-0, 11-4-0 MIAA) blanked Wilmington, and beat Woburn, before falling to Franklin Sunday in a Burns Tournament semifinal. The Rockets take on Belmont Wednesday, and then Tewksbury on Sunday.

#8 Arlington (12-3-1) had a solid week with wins over Watertown and Framingham. The Spy Ponders look ahead to Winchester (Wednesday) and Belmont (Saturday), before closing out Burns Tournament play on Sunday.

#9 Hingham (8-6-2) had a split week, beating Duxbury, falling to Pope Francis and tying Canton. St. John’s (S) is up next on Wednesday.

Franklin (10-6-0) moves up to #10 with Sunday’s impressive win over Reading. Taunton (Tuesday) and Bishop Feehan (Wednesday) are next.

** Note: some records in poll include results from MIAA Endowment games. Those results do not count in MIAA power rankings.
