Mass. Girls Division 2 Poll
There was some considerable change in the bottom half of this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts Girls Division 2 Top 10 after the first few weeks of regular season action. With some tough opponents and Holiday Tournament action coming up over the next week or so, the potential is there for even more shuffling in our first rankings of the new year.
For now, Notre Dame Academy (2-1-0) will stay in the #1 spot. The Cougars fell to defending Division 1 champ Woburn in a key non-league clash, but rebounded with a nice win over preseason #2 Westwood, 3-2 this week. Another huge game is on tap this weekend, with NDA travelling to take on Methuen/Tewksbury.
Winchester (2-0-0) moves up to #2 this week after a pair of solid wins. The Sachems get Burlington on Saturday.
Unbeaten Wellesley (2-0-1) jumps up to #3 after its impressive start. The Raiders will now a lot more about themselves over the next week or so, taking on D1 powers Needham (tonight) and Austin Prep (December 31).

#4 Westwood (3-2-0) has been the busiest of teams, having played five games already on the young season. The Wolverines played well in the one-goal loss to NDA. Their other loss was to D1’s new #1 team – Austin Prep. Westwood takes on Falmouth Saturday, then will participate in the Canton Ice House Invitational over holiday week.
#5 Matignon (1-1-0) has split its first two games, defeating Medford/Malden and falling to Austin Prep. The Warriors battle Leominster on Saturday, then will take part in the Boston Latin Christmas Tournament next week, seeing Andover in the opening round on Wedneseday.
Canton (2-0-1) holds firm at #6, unbeaten after three games, having allowed just two goals. The Bulldogs take on Westwood in a key clash in the first round of the Canton Ice House Invitational next Wednesday.
Milton (3-0-1) explodes into the Top 10 this week at #7. The Wildcats have fired home 23 goals already on the young season. Seniors Julia Scannell and Kat Buchanan have combined for 34 points already. They get Medfield in next week’s Canton Ice House Invitational.
#8 Archbishop Williams (3-1-0) is off to a good start, having scored 28 goals so far. Competition will pick up for the Bishops, who take on Austin Prep (Saturday) and then Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake (December 27th).
Also new to the rankings this week are both #9 Marshfield (2-0-0) and #10 Belmont (4-0-0). The Rams have a key clash on Saturday with resurgent Plymouth, while the Marauders play back-to-back this week against Medford/Malden (tonight) and Stoneham (Saturday).
