No. 1 Thornton Academy captured its third Class A state championship with a 5-3 win against South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete. They took out sixth-seeded Bangor 3-2 in the state semifinals and skated by Marshwood/Sanford/Traip by the same score in the quarters.
No. 2 South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete pulled off an upset en route to a championship appearance defeating top-seeded Falmouth 5-1 in the state semifinals. The Red Riots cruised past 2022 state champions Scarborough 4-0 in the quarterfinals.
No. 3 Falmouth had an outstanding regular season going 16-2 and breezed past Lewiston 8-1 in the quarterfinals. Their attempt at a third Class A state championship ended in the semifinals with the loss to South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete.
No. 4 Bangor got hot at the end of the regular season to earn the No. 6 seed. The Rams upset the third-seeded Edward Little Red Red Eddies 4-2 in the Class A quarterfinals. Bangor’s season came to an end against Thornton.
No. 5 Edward Little had another strong season but it didn’t translate in the playoffs losing in the quarterfinals.
No. 6 Scarborough had its highs during the regular season but couldn’t defend the Class A state championship with a quarterfinal loss to South Portland and company.
No.7 Marshwood/Traip/Sanford had an outstanding regular season and nearly pulled off the upset against Thornton in the quarterfinals.
