Maine HS Hockey – Class B Top 8: Old Town/Orono, Cape Elizabeth Hold Top Two Spots

The Old Town/Orono Black Bears move to the top spot with wins against John Bapst/Hermon/Bangor Christian/Deer Isle-Stonington and Presque Isle to start the season. They host Messalonskee on Monday and travel to Waterville/Winslow on Thursday.

No. 2 Cape Elizabeth made a statement early in the year with a win over Greely. This week the Capers defeated Kennebunk/Wells 7-0 on Wednesday. They host Poland/Leavitt/Oak Hill/Gray-New Gloucester on New Year’s Day.

No. 3 Hampden Academy defeated Brewer/Searsport 3-2 on Thursday. It’s a big week this upcoming week facing Class A Bangor on Wednesday and traveling to Presque Isle on Friday.

No. 4 Messalonskee is off to a 3-0 start with wins over Camden Hills and Gardiner. On Christmas Eve day, they defeatedCony/Monmouth/Erskine/Mt. Blue/Richmond 5-4 in OT. In addition to the game against Orono/Old Town, they have home games against Maranacook/Winthrop/Spruce Mountain/Hall-Dale/Lawrence on Wednesday and Gardiner on Friday.

No. 5 Greely opened the season with a 4-2 win over Cheverus/Yarmouth before losing to Cape Elizabeth. The Rangers travel to York on Tuesday and host Falmouth on New Year’s Day.

No. 6 Brunswick lost 4-3 on Thursday to Cheverus/Yarmouth. The Dragons host John Bapst/Hermon/Bangor Christian/Deer Isle-Stonington on Tuesday travel to Windham/Westbrook/Bonny Eagle/Sacopee on Wednesday and host York on

No. 7 Camden Hills lost to Messalonskee in the opening game of the season but defeated Brewer/Searsport 2-1 on Dec. 18. They travel to Cony/Monmouth/Erskine/Mt. Blue/Richmond on Monday and Gardiner on Thursday.

No. 8 Presque Isle opened the season with a 5-1 win over Houlton/Hodgdon/Greater Houlton Christian Academy before losing to Old Town/Orono. The showdown with Hampden Academy is the lone game of the week.

No. 9 York defeated Marshwood/Traip/Sanford/Noble 6-1 on Monday. Games against Greely and Brunswick are the only two this week.

No. 10 Cheverus/Yarmouth had their game against Kennebunk/Wells on Tuesday postponed but had a win over Brunswick on Thursday. They face Portland/Deering on New Years Day.
