Cape Elizabeth is heading to its first Class B state championship game since 2006.

The Capers defeated the York Wildcats 2-0 Wednesday night at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. Goalie Charlie Garvin stopped 18 shots for his fourth shutout of the season.

Brady Hanisko blasted a shot from the high slot just past the seven-minute mark of the opening frame, giving the Capers a 1-0 lead.

York goalie Aidan McQuaide was outstanding in the opening frame to keep the Wildcats in striking distance. Garvin made two big saves for Cape Elizabeth on the penalty kill in the first.

Both teams had a power play early in the second period. York couldn’t convert on their chance, but Colin Blackburn‘s shot from the right circle beat McQuaide 6:25 into the period, giving the Capers a 2-0 advantage.

Garvin stopped a Shea Buckley breakaway attempt midway through the second period. McQuaide stopped 21 shots in the losing effort for York.
