The Messalonskee Eagles are heading back to the Class B state championship game for the first time since 2015 with a 3-1 win over Hampden Academy in the North Regional Final.

Will Durkee had a hand in all three goals for the Eagles, recording a goal and two assists.

After a scoreless first period, the Eagles broke the ice 19 seconds into the middle frame. Bryce Crowell scored his 19th tally of the season with Durkee and Andrew Salvadori setting the tally up. It was the lone goal of the second period.

Durkee blasted a shot past Hampden goalie Aaron Donovan 5:19 into the third period on the power play. Donovan made a key save later in the third period on a breakaway attempt by the Eagles.

Durkee sprung Garrett Card with a pass into the offensive zone and Card’s snap shot beat Donovan (34 saves) with 1:13 remaining in the game.

Hampden Academy didn’t go down without a fight, scoring nine seconds after as Lucas Cousins stuffed the puck past Messalonskee goalie Hunter Hallee (26 saves).
