Every year Class A gets the publicity in high school hockey in the state of Maine. This year the best team in the state was the Messalonskee Eagles as they went a perfect 21-0-0 season. They didn’t shy away from playing the top Class A teams like Bangor and Falmouth. They scored nearly seven goals per game. There is no question who was the number one team in Class B.

The Class as a whole got stronger with four teams dropping down from Class A to Class B. In Western Class B, Gorham ended Greely‘s two year reign in Class B after going to the Western regional semifinal in Class A last year. Kennebunk also had a strong year in Western B as they fell to Gorham in the regional semifinals in a 1-0 game. The third team to make the jump in Western B was Winthrop/Maranacook.

In the East, Waterville dropped down to B after 20 state championships in Class A. They will make Eastern B stronger as a whole in the years to come.
