In Class B East, things are starting to really tighten up.

The Messalonskee Eagles are in control with a 9-0-0 record after defeating Old Town and Hampden this week, 6-0 in both games. They face Brewer on Wednesday in Brewer.

Behind them for the final five playoff spots, it’s a crapshoot.

Presque Isle holds the No. 2 seed as they picked up a 9-3 victory over Winslow on Saturday. They also defeated Houlton/Hodgdon 7-4 on Tuesday and lost to Lawrence/Skowhegan on Friday.  They next face Waterville this Friday. Waterville  had been the No. 2 seed but are sitting in the No. 5 seed at the moment.

Waterville lost in a 4-3 overtime thriller to the current No. 3 team Winslow. Waterville had Cony/Monmouth on Martin Luther King Day before facing Presque Isle on Friday.

Winslow also picked up a 3-2 win over Hampden Academy,  which holds the sixth and final playoff spot in Eastern B. Sandwiched between their losses to Winslow and Messalonskee, they defeated Western Class B opponent Winthrop/Maranacook 5-3 on Wednesday. They return to action on Jan. 25 to face Old Town/Orono.

The No. 4 seed John Bapst had the week off but face Camden Hills on Monday and Houlton/Hodgdon on Friday.

Brewer, who is no stranger to the playoffs is sitting on the outside looking in. After the week off  they face Houlton/Hodgdon on Monday before games against Messalonskee on Wednesday and Winthrop/Maranacook on Saturday.

In the West, it looks like it will be a three-team race for the top spot.

Camden Hills had the week off and the game against John Bapst is their lone game of the week.

Gorham had no problem defeating Massabesic/Old Orchard  13-1, but dropped a 2-1 game against Greely this week. They face Cape Elizabeth on Monday while they have a rematch against Greely on Saturday this week.

Kennebunk defeated York 9-1 on Tuesday and the two teams meet again on Monday. They also squeaked out a 3-2 win over Cape Elizabeth on Saturday. Also on the docket for them this week is Massabesic/Old Orchard on Saturday.

Yarmouth lost to Cheverus 7-3 on Thursday and has a game with another Class A opponent in Portland/Deering on Thursday and a game against Leavitt on Saturday.

Greely lost to Thornton Academy 7-3 this week after their 2-1 win over Gorham. Before their rematch with Gorham they face Leavitt on Monday.
