After the No. 5 Waterville Purple Panthers dropped two games to Winthrop/Maranacook and Winslow on Jan. 11 and Jan. 15 respectfully, they got back on track this past week with wins at No. 9 Presque Isle and Houlton/Hodgdon this past Friday and Saturday.

They hope the momentum they built over the weekend carries over to this week when they face Hampden Academy on Thursday and they host Presque Isle for an early morning showdown on Saturday. Presque Isle who sits in fourth in the Eastern Class B standings will face Orono/Old Town as they make the trek down to Waterville for Saturday’s contest against the Purple Panthers.

The No. 8 Winslow Black Raiders have two big games against the No. 10 Brewer Witches in the next seven days. The first game will be up in Brewer on Monday and the second game will be down in Winslow for a Saturday evening game.

In between the two games Winslow faces Skowhegan/Lawrence, a Class A opponent who have held their own this season. That will be a home game for Skowhegan/Lawrence.

Brewer will face No. 1 Messalonskee on Wednesday, it will be the second time in seven days those two teams  meet. This time the game will be played at Messalonskee’s home rink, Sukee Arena.

Everyone in Eastern B is is still chasing Messalonskee who still has a 10-0-0 record. The Brewer game is their lone game this week.

In the West, No. 2 Camden Hills is still the team to beat although they had a close game with John Bapst on Martin Luther King Day where they squeaked out a 4-3 victory. This week they host No. 7 Greely, who is making a late-season push on Wednesday. They will also host Maranacook/Winthrop on Saturday.

As mentioned the Greely Rangers are hot with a three-game winning streak with two 2-1 wins over No. 3 Gorham and Leavitt. The road doesn’t get easier with a game against Biddeford  also on the docket on Monday.

Sitting ahead of Greely in the Western B standings is Yarmouth. They will take a two game winning streak into this week and they will play the next four games at home. This week they have Maranacook/Winthrop on Tuesday before facing Falmouth on Saturday.

The Gorham Rams look to rebound against Leavitt on Tuesday before a match up against the Kennebunk on Saturday. Before the game against Gorham, Kennebunk has a game against the pesky Cape Elizabeth Capers on Tuesday.
