Maine Class A Top 7: There’s Plenty Of Movement As The Pack Jockeys For Position

Lewiston remains No. 1 in the HNIB News Maine Class A Top 7 but there has been movement below them. The Blue Devils went 3-0 this week with a 5-2 win over Falmouth on Monday, a 4-2 win over Edward Little on Wednesday and a 3-1 victory over Scarborough Saturday night. Lewiston is hosting Portland/Deering Wednesday and traveling to Bangor on Friday.

No. 2 South Portland/Waynflete/Freeport moves up thanks to a 5-2 win over Windham/Westbrook on Tuesday and a 6-1 victory over Marshwood/Traip/Sanford/Noble on Saturday. The Red Riots face Edward Little on Wednesday and host Lake Region/Fryeburg/Oxford Hills on Saturday.

No. 3 St. Dom’s moves up as well after a 4-3 win over Scarborough in OT Wednesday and a 3-1 victory against Yarmouth on Saturday. They host Greely Wednesday and travel to Biddeford Saturday to take on Thornton Academy.

No. 4 Scarborough looks to bounce back from those losses to St. Dom’s and Lewiston as they travel to Cape Elizabeth on Monday and Lake Region/Fryeburg/Oxford Hill on Tuesday. The Red Storm host Biddeford/Old Orchard Beach/Massebesic on Thursday before traveling to Marshwood/Traip/Sanford/Noble on Saturday.

No. 5 Thornton Academy picked up two wins in three games this week. They opened the week with a 3-0 win over Biddeford/Old Orchard Beach/Massebesic on Tuesday before dropping a 5-2 decision to Falmouth on Thursday and defeating Bangor 3-1 on Saturday. The Golden Trojans host St. Dom’s in their lone game of the week.

No. 6 Lake Region/Fryeburg/Oxford Hills enters this week’s rankings as the Ice Cats defeated Maranacook/Winthrop/Madison/Spruce Mountain/Lawrence, 7-1, on Monday; Marshwood/Traip/Sanford/Noble, 3-1, on Wednesday; and Kennebunk/Wells, 3-1, on Saturday. Their two games this week are against Scarborough and South Portland/Waynflete/Freeport.

No. 7 Bangor opened the week with a 6-3 win over Waterville/Winslow on Wednesday before dropping the 3-1 decision to Thornton on Saturday. The game against Lewiston is its lone game of the week.
