Maine Class A Top 10
The three-time defending state champions are off to another fantastic start as the No. 1 Lewiston Blue Devils are 4-0. After defeating Cony/Hall-Dale/Monmouth and Cheverus in the opening week, this past week they defeated Thornton Academy and St. Dom’s. They will spend the holiday week taking part in the St. Dom’s Christmas Classic. They return to regular season action on New Year’s Day against rival Edward Little.
No. 2 Bangor Rams are also 4-0 as they defeated Brewer and St. Dom’s in the opening week. This week they defeated Hampden Academy 6-0 and Falmouth 5-1. They return to action on January 3 against Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse/Hyde.
After a tough loss to Falmouth to start the season No. 3 Scarborough defeated Edward Little 3-0 on Wednesday before defeating Marshwood/Traip/Sanford/Noble 4-1 on Saturday. They face Massabesic/Bonny Eagle/Old Orchard Beach on Thursday.
No. 4 Edward Little’s lone game this week was against Scarborough where the Red Eddies lost 3-0. They will take part in the St. Dom’s Christmas Classic. Their first game of the tournament is a regular season contest against the hosts, St. Dom’s on Wednesday. The remainder of the tournament are considered exhibition games.
The No. 5 Biddeford Tigers picked up their first two victories of the season this past week as they defeated Cheverus 6-0 on Thursday and Lake Region/Fryeburg Academy/Oxford Hills 6-2 on Saturday. They face Cape Elizabeth on Saturday.
The No. 6 St. Dom’s Saints started the season 2-0 with wins over Cheverus and Thornton Academy. They dropped their past two games against Bangor on Saturday, Dec. 15 3-0 before losing to Lewiston this past Saturday, 3-2. They host the St. Dom’s Christmas Classic which includes a regular season game against Edward Little.
No. 7 Portland/Deering is off to a solid start as they picked up their second win of the season on Tuesday as they defeated Marshwood/Traip/Sanford/Noble 7-1. They return to regular season action in 2019.
No. 8 South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete split their two games this week as they fell to Massabesic/Bonny Eagle/Old Orchard Beach 4-1 on Thursday. They bounced back on Saturday with a 5-4 overtime victory over Thornton Academy. They host Falmouth on Saturday.
It was a busy week for No. 9 Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse/Hyde as they started the week with a 6-4 win over Cony/Hall-Dale/Monmouth on Monday. They lost to Gardiner 5-4 in overtime on Wednesday. They had a 5-2 defeat on Saturday to rival Brunswick. They travel to face Cony/Hall-Dale/Monmouth in a rematch on Thursday to close out the 2018 calendar year.
The No. 10 Falmouth Yachtsmen lost their only game of the week on Friday to Bangor 5-1. Their lone game of the upcoming week is against South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete.
