Western Class A Final
– Scarborough 5, Cheverus 2
Matt Caron had a pair of first period goals to lead the Scarborough Red Storm to the 5-2 victory over the Cheverus Stags and the Maine Class B West title. He also had an assist in the contest.
Caron opened up the scoring on the power play just past the four minute mark of the opening period with Shawn McGovern picking up the assist on the goal. Caron notched his second goal with 5:18 remaining in the opening stanza also on the power play. McGovern and Cameron Smith set the marker up.
Scarborough was 2-for-4 on the man advantage while Cheverus was 0-for-5. Caron set up Colin Heyward’s goal 2:55 into the second period. Cam Nigro also had an assist on the play.
The Stags used the second period to mount their comeback as James Hannigan scored 6:39 into the middle frame. James Kane scored with 3:34 remaining in the period. Cheverus peppered Scarborough goaltender Ben Bragg in the third period and had a goal waived off as the net came off it’s moorings with under five minutes remaining in the game.
Bragg made 27 saves and Cheverus netminder Kyle Severance stopped 17 shots. McGovern and Nigro added empty net goals in the final minute to secure the victory.
Eastern Class A Final
– St. Dom’s 5, Lewiston 3
Dillon Pratt scored a pair of goals to lead the St. Dominic Academy Saints to the 5-3 victory over the Lewiston Blue Devils and the Maine Class A East crown.
He opened the scoring 5:21 into the game with Brad Berube picking up the assist. Lewiston responded off the face-off 13 seconds later when Joe Bisson found the back of the net for his first of the contest. Kyle Morin and Griffin Wade set up the goal.
Adam Poulin put the Saints up 2-1 heading into the first intermission with his goal with 6:02 remaining. Noah Toussaint picked up the lone assist. On the third power play of the second period, the Blue Devils tied the contest when Cole Ouellette fed Bisson for his second goal of the night with 1:46 to play into the period.
The Saints scored a power play goal of their own when Pratt found the back of the net 14 seconds into the final frame with Caleb Labrie getting a helper. St. Dom’s was 1-for-3 while Lewiston was 1-for-6 on the power play.
Issac Lapointe notched the eventual game winner as he picked up the loose trash in front of the crease and fired the puck home.
Jeromey Rancourt cut the deficit to one with a goal 6:46 into the period with Brendon Croteau and Dustin Larochelle picking up points on the play. Rancourt had a breakaway opportunity later in the period, but was stopped by Saints goalie Kyle Welsh.
Welsh made 34 saves while Jacob Strout made 32 saves in the loss.
Austin Roy added an empty netter for St. Dom’s.
