Over the holidays, not much has changed in Class A as many teams took part in tournaments or Mother Nature postponed games.
No. 1 Scarborough remains the top team with a 6-0 victory over Kennebunk on Saturday. This week they host Noble/Wells and Gorham on Tuesday and Saturday respectively.
No. 2 Lewiston is nipping at Scarborough’s heels with their 6-1 victory over rival St. Dominic Academy Saturday evening. The Blue Devils are about to hit the meat of the schedule with Falmouth on Thursday and Biddeford on Saturday. Games against Scarborough and Bangor are on the horizon.
No. 3 Falmouth is halfway through their schedule with a 7-1 record after defeating Portland/Deering on Tuesday and Greely on New Year’s Day. They are another team hitting the meat of their schedule but will only face Lewiston this week.
No. 4 Bangor took care of business this week defeating Portland/Deering Saturday 6-3. They face the two Catholic schools this week as they host St. Dom’s on Wednesday and travel to Portland on Saturday to face the Cheverus Stags.
No. 5 Thornton Academy has had a solid start the season with a 4-2 record. They defeated rival Biddeford Tigers on Thursday. They host one of the better Class B South teams, the Yarmouth Clippers on Wednesday.
No. 6 St. Dom’s split the two-regular season games this week as they defeated Cheverus 4-2 and lost 6-1 to Lewiston. In addition to their game against Bangor they face cross-town rival Edward Little on Saturday.
No. 7 Biddeford is hovering at .500 with a 4-4 record after losing to Thornton on Thursday. Before hosting Lewiston on Saturday, they take on Greely on Tuesday as they travel up I-95 to Falmouth’s Family Ice Center.
No. 8 Edward Little won both games this week as they took out Lawrence/Skowhegan on Wednesday 4-2 and Gorham on Saturday 4-1. They host Windham-Westbrook on Wednesday before their contest against St. Dom’s on Saturday.
No. 9 Cony/Hall-Dale/Monmouth makes an appearance in the Top 10 as they defeated previously unbeaten Windham-Westbrook Saturday afternoon 2-1. They also defeated Poland/Gray-New Gloucester/Oak Hill 13-0 on Wednesday.
Despite losing Saturday, No. 10 Windham/Westbrook hangs on to the ten spot with a 5-1 record. They picked up a win on Monday over Marshwood/Traip/Sanford. After their contest against EL they have a rematch with Marshwood/Traip/Sanford on Saturday at USM’s Ice Arena in Gorham.
