Maine Class A North Preview: St. Dom’s, Bangor, Edward Little Ready To Go

Maine Class A North will be comprised of eight teams this winter. The playoff winner gets a berth in the Class A state final game.

LEWISTON (19-2-0)

The three-time defending Class A Champions will have to fill some holes in the lineup as Alex Robert transferred to Deerfield Academy after a 40-point junior campaign. Sam Frechette opted to forego his senior year to join the L/A Nordiques of the NA3HL after scoring 11 goals and 13 assists a year ago.

Ridge Field, Tyler Marcoux and Caden Smith bring senior leadership up front. Jacob Smith and Shawn Chabot return in goal as seniors. Defensively Willie Blanchette and John Mathon are seniors while Sam Laroche is a junior and Nick Pomerleau is a sophomore.


Noah Austin will be key to the Eagles success as the senior had 25 goals and 19 assists as a junior.

The strength of the team is defense with five returners led by senior Cam Poisson while Cam Wallace is is a junior. There are three sophomores in Noah Magda, Andrew Pulsifer and Hunter Hardy. In goal Cade Charron appeared in all 18 regular season games last season and the senior will mentor freshman Sean Moore.

In all coach A.J. Kavanaugh has seven other newcomers including a couple from the Hyde School in Bath that has joined the co-op team.


It will be a mix of seniors and sophomores for Windham/Westbrook in 2018-19.

Senior Derek Corbett had 14 points including five goals while fellow senior Tommy Lekousi’s five of six points were goals. Sophomore Austen White had two goals and four assists while sophomore Holden Anderson had two goals and two assists.

Sean White is a veteran keeper that’s playing in his final season of high school hockey. Sophomores Travis Brown and Robert Doherty will lead the defense. Coach Greg Leclair has four freshmen and one sophomore joining the team.

The Red Eddies return major pieces at all three positions for the 2018-19 season.

In goal they have Gavin Toussaint who has seen action in his first two seasons including 12 starts last year. On the blue line senior Cam Audette and junior Dylan Campbell will log heavy amount of minutes.

EL returns Ben Cassidyas their leading scorer ago with eight goals and 17 assists in 17 games. Logan Alexander (14 points) and Ben Lane Robichaud (11 points) also return up front.

ST. DOMENIC’S (8-8-2)

The Saints are excited for the new year as their All State goalie Gaston Fuksa returns for his senior season. The Czech Republic native went 7-8-2 with a 1.92 goals against average and a .940 save percentage.

They return their top five scorers with William Fletcher leading the way with nine goals and five assists. Zack Pelletier (13 points), Jaden Webster (11 points), Dominic Chasse (11 points) and Jacob Lewis (10 points) are the others. Junior defenseman Jack Ouellette and sophomore Derek Wolverton will patrol the blue line.

BANGOR (11-7-0)

The Rams  are perennial contender in Class A North and 2018-19 will be no different. Ley by senior center Nick Boudreau who had 15 goals and nine assists while senior winger Reid Higgs had nine goals and 12 assists a year ago. Junior winger Dave Brown had 12 goals and nine assists. In goal, Senior Jacob Henry was solid a season ago with a 6-3 record, 2.36 gaa and a .920 save percentage. Nick Cowperthwaite a senior and junior Jacob Munroe will lead the defense while junior Anthony Caccese will provide some depth on the back end.


The Bandits have no place but to go up after a winless 2017-18. They return two forwards under new coach Gordon Small in senior Ryan Savage who had two goals and an assist last season while junior Cody Dixon led the team with three goals and an assist. Senior Avery Gosselin and junior Ben Pierce will lead the defense. Small expects five freshmen to contribute this season.


The Rams returns their second leading scorer in Reed Hopkins who had 11 goals and 10 assists in 18 games. Sam MacFarland will be a key defenseman as a junior as he showed some offensive ability as a sophomore as he dished out eight assists.
Joe Arps will provide senior leadership  from the blue line. Junior Mike Crochere  and freshman Matty Shea will battle it out between the pipes as Dalton Bowie graduated. Shawn Johnson who has been on the staff for 20-plus years takes over as head coach as Chad Foye became Messalonskee’s new Athletic Director.
