Both Worcester Academy and Winchendon have been on ice practicing, but Sunday will be the much anticipated first game action against another school when the two teams face off at the Worcester Ice Center.
Hopefully there will be more action on the docket in the upcoming weeks as some prep schools look forward to playing games. Here is a season prevew on each team:
The Wapiti worked hard on developing team chemistry during the fall, despite the challenges of the pandemic, and look forward to using that as they hit the ice for some game action.
A solid group of returning forwards has seniors Anna McCluskey (Hamline University), Lizzie Emerson and Maude St. Louis, juniors Zoe Tow, Kaylen Taddia and Grace Fitzgerald, and sophomore Maria Pierce.
Juniors Sophia Gregory and Olivia Benoit, and sophomores Mackenzie O’Leary and Rhea Bullens return from last year’s club for coach Laura DiCarlo. Three new blue liners ready to show their talents are junior Rose Harvey, sophomore Brianna Conger and freshman Sami Lester.
In goal, senior Hope Walinski, a Providence College commit, is back to give Winchendon a solid presence between the pipes.
Solid on the blue line and in goal, the Hilltoppers will be younger up front, but have lots of skill in this the 10th year of the program.
Junior Lauren Potvin (19 pts) is a Sacred Heart commit and returns to the lineup up front along with junior Faith Mancini (17 pts) and junior Kaleigh Wall (10 pts). New junior Erika Parenti hails from Quebec.
Coach Kevin Zifcak boasts some nice experience on the blue line. Senior Ciara Dauer (16 pts) is bound for Manhattanville, while fellow senior Shannon Burke (24 pts) has committed to Wesleyan. Senior Annalise Monopoli and junior Emily Long are two more key returners.
Senior goaltender Mary Honan fashioned a 2.20 gaa last season.
