Williston won the Exeter Invitational

The Williston girls hockey team took top honors at the Exeter Invitational this past weekend, blanking Canterbury, 6-0, in the championship game.

The Wildcats raced to a 3-0 first period lead and never looked back. They took a 1-0 lead on a goal by sophomore Delaney Belinskas off a feed from defenseman Rachel Rockwell. Just 30 seconds later, Meg Rickard scored from a pass from Belinskas on a 2-on-1 break. Rickard then scored an unassisted shorthanded goal late in the period.

In the second period,  Belinskas scored her second goal of the game, assisted by Christina Zalewski, who had a big tournament.

Rockwell and Rikard added third period goals for Williston, who outshot Canterbury by a 33-9 margin. Sydney Belinskas and Morgan Fisher split the shutout in goal.

Zalewski had the lone goal in a 1-0 semifinal win over Stanstead College, a first period strike. She also had two goals and an assist in a 3-0 whitewashing of New Hampton, and both goals in a 2-2 standoff with Gunnery (Williston earned the tourney win with a shootout victory, as Sydney Belinskas stopped all four shots she faced, and Alicia Barry had the lone goal).

In the opening match of the tournament, the Wildcats subdued Rice by a 4-1 score. Laura Helm had two goals, and Barry (26 seconds in) and Gabby Jones each had one.
