Girls Prep Top 15
Two teams have definitely stepped to the forefront in this latest installment of the HNIB News Girls Prep Top 15.
Both defending New England Elite Tournament champs Williston (13-0-0) and Phillips Andover (11-0-0) are perfect on the season to date. Williston has outscored opponents by a very impressive 60-9 margin. Andover has scored 37 goals, and allowed just eight.
Circle the date February 11th: That’s when the two teams face each other at Andover.
While the rest of the pack has taken turns beating each other, #3 Kent (10-2-0) has put together a hot streak. The Lions are a perfect five for five in January, running their win streak to eight in a row. Included are January wins over Nobles and Loomis Chaffee. Kent is at Pomfret Wednesday then hosts Williston in a key showdown on Saturday.
#4 Nobles (11-3-1) has won three straight after suffering a loss to Kent and being tied up by Rivers. The ‘Dawgs have Winchendon (Wednesday) and Exeter (Saturday) this week.
It was a big weekend for #5 Tabor (8-3-0), as the Seawolves put up 18 goalis in wins over New Hampton and Hill School. Looking ahead, Tabor will see Thayer (Wednesday) and a rematch with Loomis Chaffee (Saturday).
#6 Dexter Southfield (9-3-1) is up a few spots in this latest rankings. They host top-ranked Williston on Wednesday, and Thayer on Friday.
#7 Cushing (10-5-1) had a recent 1-3-1 stretch, but defeated Thayer and St. Mark’s in its last two outings. A key game looms Wednesday with St. Paul’s. Middlesex will be the Penguins opponent on Saturday.
#8 Milton Academy (7-3-1) had a 2-0 win over #9 Loomis Chaffee (6-5-1), and loss to Dexter Southfield (3-1) and most recently a scoreless tie with #13 Groton. The Mustangs travel to Governor’s Academy Wednesday and host Austin Prep on Saturday.
Loomis Chaffee has Taft Wednesday before the Tabor game on Saturday.
Westminster (7-3-1) rounds out the top ten. The Martlets are 3-0-1 in their last four and have Millbrook (Wednesday), Portsmouth Abbey (Friday) and Hotchkiss (Saturday) this week.
Phillips Exeter (5-2-0) enters the rankings this week at #15 after back-to-back 3-2 overtime wins over Deerfield and Worcester Academy.
