Girls Prep Top 15
This past Saturday was a big day in New England Girls Prep hockey, when four of the Top 5 teams in the HNIB News Girls Prep Top 15 squared off in key games.
As expected both were one-goal games and can be considered a preview of what to expect in the upcoming inaugural Girls Prep Hockey Elite 8 Tournament, which is officially named the Chuck Vernon Tournament. The eight team field will be announced this coming Sunday after the conclusion of the regular season.
#1 Nobles (27-0-1) was involved in one of those games, taking on #3 Tabor (21-2-0). It would be the ‘Dawgs who would prevail, taking a 1-0 OT win on an goal by Ellie Bayard. Nobles did suffer its first blemish with a 1-1 tie with #9 Andover (14-7-1) earlier in the week, and also beat Thayer (4-1). Games against Governors Academy (Wednesday) and Milton (Saturday) close out the regular season.
#2 Kent (14-3-1) had a 2-1 win over Hotchkiss in its only action. The Lions take on Gunnery (Wednesday) and then have a key game of their own with a Saturday date against #8 Westminster (16-6-1).
The Seawolves finish their regular season with St. George’s (Wednesday) and Berkshire (Saturday).
Loomis Chaffee (17-5-1) moves up a spot to #4 after the Pelicans edged past #5 Williston (16-5-1) by a 2-1 count on Saturday, thanks to a pair of power play strikes by Cally Dixon. A big game looms Wednesday with Andover. Deerfield is Saturday’s opponent.
#6 BB&N (19-6-0) fell to Tabor, 3-1, early in the week before beating Lawrence Academy and St. Mark’s #7 St. Paul’s (16-6-0) won three games and closes the regular season Proctor on Wednesday.
Westminster takes on Lawrenceville on Wednesday, while Andover closes its season with Phillips Exeter Saturday. Both hope to earn a big to the Chuck Vernon Tournament.
#10 New Hampton (17-8-0) had wins over Dexter Southfield (3-0) and Northfield (4-1).
