Gary Demopoulos has been covering prep school hockey for the HNIB News for over 30 years, and has been the editor of the HNIB News since 2005. A former sportswriter and news editor at the Woburn (MA) Daily Times Chronicle, he has been the HNIB News' key reporter for Mens Prep School hockey since 1988, as well as womens hockey, both at the prep school and high school levels. for almost 20 years. With eight straight .500+ seasons under their belt, the Blues are excited for the upcoming season. They will participate in holiday tournaments at Dexter Southfield and Exeter this winter.

Coach Ari Baum returns five key forwards and all have college commitments. Senior Charlie Rauch (UNH commit) has led the team in scoring the past two years, setting program records single season goals and points last winter. Fellow seniors Sarah Anthony (Middlebury), Ashley O’Hara (SUNY-Plattsburgh), Sasha Golberg (Connecticut College) and Nina McKenna (Trinity) will have key roles. Newcomers up front are juniors Genevieve Sbrocca and Meena Al-Kadiri, and sophomores Evelyn Finch, Anna Lloren, KR Murphy and Daisy Wiggins.

On the blue line, senior Brooke Heck (Hamilton commit) and sophomore Avery Cohen have big roles. New senior Maddie Smith is a Sacred Heart commit. Juniors Jocelyn Means and Julia Slaney and freshman Addie Hartman have joined the defensive group.

Junior Jaelynn Bucinell is a returning goaltender. Sophomore Amy Wang is also in the netminding rotation.


Continuing to work on defensive zone play, and capitalizing on rebounds in the offensive end will be keys this winter for the Big Red, who again will play in the Patsy Odden tournament at Taft School later this month.

The Lawrenceville offense will revolve around senior Stella Costabile (Syracuse commit), senior Kate Morey (Wesleyan commit) and sophomore Emma Walling. A trio of freshmen looking to show what they can do are Lyla Picker, Haley Hasbargen and Sabrina Sokol.

Junior standout Ellie Dimatos, a Princeton commit, anchors the defense for coach Nicole Uliasz.

Sophomore Sarah Martin is a returning varsity goalie. New sophomore Lydia Carr will press for time.


A deep and talented blue line will be an intregral part of any success Portledge will have this year.

Kindred Hare, Blake Dubeau and Maggie Fitzpatrick all return on defense for coach Taylor Holze. The group is bolstered by the arrival of junior Perry L’Esperance, freshman Nicole Sciaretta and eighth-grader Lily Brodsky.

The offense will be paced by Ryan Erster and Sammy Brodsky. Sophomore Hailey Vigna and freshman Reese L’Esperance will help out.

Jillian Storminger and Sarah Smyth will handle the goaltending.
