A former sportswriter and news editor at the Woburn (MA) Daily Times Chronicle, he has been the HNIB News' key reporter for Mens Prep School hockey since 1988, as well as womens hockey, both at the prep school and high school levels. for almost 20 years. BERWICK ACADEMY (9-12-3)

Coach: Kelly Souza

With an experienced defense and some capable scoring back in the fold, the Bulldogs are in for a solid season.

UNH commit Julia Cabral, a senior, will spearhead things offensively for coach Souza. Seniors Ashlyn Libby (Chatham University commit) and Kimi Hurer, and freshman Parker Roenick will contribute. Among the newcomers ready to chip in are freshmen Thea Arsenault (Spitfires) and Emily Hester (Seacoast Spartans) and eighth-grader Mia Daley (Wizards).

The defenisve group returns the likes of seniors Reese Fendelet and Bella Mazza, junior Ella Martin and freshman Ella Souza. New junior Taylor Barbour heads over from Seacoast Performance Acad, while a pair of eighth-graders – Paisley Meyer (Assabet) and Blake Metcalf (Assabet).

Backboning the club from the net is senior rock Bella Pomarico, who has committed to Boston College. A new freshman, Ragan Schank (Valley Jr. Warriors) is in the mix as well.

Abby Amigo Pingree

PINGREE (7-13-2)

Coach: Jim MacLaughlin

If the Highlanders can generate enough in the offensive end of the ice, they will be a solid opponent. Coach MacLaughlin, in his 35th year of coaching, feels his team has good experience on the blue line and in goal.

Tasked with putting the puck in the net will be a bevy of returning forwards in seniors Zarenna Sawyer and Phoebe Thorne, juniors Ashley Small, Lucia Lafauci and Sadie Canelli, and sophomores Abby Amigo and Jaselle Yepez. Ready to crack the lineup are freshmen Cora Reidy and Sarah DiCenso.

The core group on defense features juniors Sophie Larson, Avery Fredo and Georgia Rossetti, and sophomore Juliana Giordano.

In goal, seniro Maddie Santosuosso is a veteran presence.

PORTSMOUTH ABBEY (10-11-1)

Coach: Kurt Carter

A veteran team with strong leadership, the Ravens could very well be in the running for a post-season berth.

The forward ranks will be lead by senior captain Ashtyn Bringardner, senior Danielle Longuemare (SUNY Plattsburgh commit), senior Sara DeSousa (Merrimack field hockey commit) and junior Zoe Rosenberg. Sophomores Sienna Chin-Gerding and Anne Robinson, and freshman Megan O’Connor bring their talents.

Senior captain Bella DiReda (Assumption commit), senior Erin McNamara and junior Lucy Verderber will be keys on defense for coach Carter. New junior Laney Harrold should step in. Returning juniors bringing experience are Sophia Capone and Dakota Ormiston.

Senior Sophia Cebrero is a veteran presence between the pipes. Also in the mix are junior Helena Cerutti and new freshman Jayden Elias.

NEWTON COUNTRY DAY (5-9-0)

Coach: Gus Means

The Falcons are expecting to have some depth this winter, which will make them a competitive lot in league play.

Junior captain Caitlyn McCarthy will be a sparkplug up front for coach Means, who also welcomes back juniors Emma McCann, Emma Walsh and MacKenzie Capplis on the front lines.

On defense, senior captain Abi Hennessey and sophomore Lily Pergola will be cornerstones in front of sophomore goalie Flora Colbert.
