Girls Prep D2 Poll
The top six spots remain the same in this week’s HNIB News Girls Prep D2 Top 10. Combined, the six clubs went 12-0-2.
#1 Vermont Academy (17-0-1) suffered its first blemish with a 1-1 tie with Kimball Union, that coming before wins over Brewster Academy (5-1) and Groton (3-0). Three more games are on tap this week with Hebron (Wednesday), New Hampton (Friday) and Winchendon (Saturday).
#2 Worcester Academy (11-2-1) continues its solid play with wins over Pomfret (7-1) and North Yarmouth Academy (5-1). The Hilltoppers will take on #3 Brooks (6-3-4) on Wednesday in a key matchup and then face Millbrook (Saturday).
The Bishops, who had a win over Tilton (5-1) and a scoreless tie with Proctor, also have Dexter/Southfield on Saturday.
It was a solid week for #4 Rivers (10-3-0) as the Red Wings knocked off BB&N (3-2), Groton (5-1) and Brewster Academy (7-2). Thayer (Wednesday) and Exeter (Friday) are this week’s opponents.
Also enjoying a big week was #5 Gunnery (7-4-0). The Highlanders blanked Hotchkiss (3-0), took down Cantebury (3-1) and then edged Lawrenceville (1-0). They take on surging Taft (Monday) and get Berkshire (Wednesday) and Hill School (Saturday).
#6 St. George’s (6-4-0) needed OT to slip past Governors Academy 5-4 Saturday. The Dragons will ready for Portsmouth Abbey (Monday) and St. Mark’s (Wednesday).
Kimball Union slides up to #7. The Wildcats had a pair of ties with Hebron (3-3) and the big one with Vermont (1-1) and a loss to D1 power St. Paul’s (3-1). Holderness (Wednesday) and Governors Academy (Friday) are on this week’s slate.
#8 Proctor (7-6-2) followed a tough loss to Groton (3-2) with the scoreless tie against Brooks. The Hornets have one game this week, a Wednesday duel with Kents Hill.
#9 Greenwich Academy (8-4-0) won its third straight with a 5-0 win over Millbrook. The Gators face Loomis Chaffee on Friday.
Slumping Canterbury (11-6-1) lost to Gunnery, and then Saturday to Albany Academy (2-1) and Sunday to Hill (3-1). The Saints look to get back on track with Rye Country Day (Wednesday) and Berkshire (Saturday).
