Girls Prep D2 Top 10
With a week to go in the regular season, playoff berths and positioning are still very much up in the air for a host of teams. Results this week will play a big role in shaping the final picture.
Brooks (17-2-2) continues to hold down the #1 position in this week’s HNIB News Girls D2 Prep Top 10, after carving out a pair of 2-1 wins over Groton and Middlesex. The Bishops, who look to be the top seed in the post-season, finish with St. Mark’s (Wednesday) and Governors Academy (Saturday).
#2 Rivers (15-5-1) is showing it should be a post-season force. The Red Wings downed Governors (3-1) and Proctor (7-0). Lawrence Academy (Wednesday) and Dexter Southfield (Saturday) are on this week’s plate.
#3 St. George’s (9-5-5) shaded Milton (1-0) and then tied Groton (3-3). The Dragons face D1 powerhouse Tabor (Wednesday) and get Middlesex on Saturday.
#4 Worcester Academy (11-9-3) came up short against D1 opponents Winchendon (2-1) and Andover (5-1) and was also tied by Holderness (4-4). The Hilltoppers have a key final weekend with trips to Greenwich Academy
(Friday) and Canterbury (Saturday).#5 Berwick (18-7-3) fell big to New Hampton Sunday, after a win over Winsor (6-1) and a tie with Tilton (2-2). The EIL post-season tournament starts Wednesday and the Bulldogs will be favored.
Vermont Academy (13-7-2) continues to creep into the picture. 3-2 wins over Gunnery and Kimball Union have the defending champion Wildcats at #6 this week. They will see Canterbury (Tuesday) and Brewster Academy (Wednesday).
#7 Kimball Union (12-6-3) did beat Hebron (8-1) and Tilton (3-0) and will try their luck with New Hampton on Wednesday. These Wildcats would be a tough out in the post-season.
#8 Thayer (13-8-1) is also jockeying for position. The Tigers had shutout wins over St. Mark’s (2-0) and NYA (6-0) around a loss to Nobles. They must deal with Groton (Wednesday) and BB&N (Thursday).
#9 Holderness (12-8-3) had a much-needed solid week, with wins over Proctor (3-0) and Middlesex (5-1) around that 4-4 tie with Worcester. The Bulls finish with Brewster Academy (Monday) and Kents Hill (Wednesday).
Groton (9-10-4) hangs on to the #10 spot. The Zebras battled top-ranked Brooks hard in the 2-1 loss and St. George’s as well.
