Girls Prep D2 Poll
Things remain tight at the top of Girls Division 2 Prep hockey. Not much separates the top teams from each other, which should make for a great ride to the post-season.
Rivers (6-1-2) will stay at #1 in this week’s HNIB Girls D2 Prep rankings. The Redwings suffered their first loss of the year to non-league Stanstead College, slipped past Brooks (1-0) and tied Proctor (1-1) at the Exeter New Years Tournament. A good litmus test happens today (Monday) with D1 power Nobles on the docket. St. George’s (Wednesday) and Winchendon (Saturday) fill out the week.
#2 Canterbury (7-3-3) dropped three straight to D1 opponents Cushing, Winchendon and Northfield, then played to a pair of 2-2 standoffs this past week with Kimball Union and Tilton. The Saints look to get back to their winning ways with Millbrook (Wednesday) and Greenwich Academy (Friday).
#3 Worcester Academy (6-3-0) dropped a 3-0 decision to St. Mark’s. Another tough D1 test comes up Wednesday against Exeter. The Hilltoppers then are scheduled to take on Portsmouth Abbey Saturday.
Thayer (8-2-1) moves up to #4. The Tigers blanked Winsor (10-0) and gave D1 power Tabor all it could handle before falling 3-2 in OT. On the docket this week are Berwick (Friday) and Southfield (Saturday).
#5 Gunnery (4-4-0) saw its game with St. George’s postponed by snow, so the Highlanders are ready to get back to game action. They have Vermont Academy (Wednesday) and Williston (Saturday).
#6 Brooks (3-4-1) blanked Proctor (3-0) and then dropped a pair of 1-0 decisions to Rivers and Stanstead College. Tough D1 opponents loom this week with St. Paul’s (Wednesday) and Lawrence Academy (Saturday).
#7 Kimball Union (7-2-1) went 2-0-1 this past week with wins over Brewster Academy (5-2) and Millbrook (3-0) sandwiched around the 2-2 tie with Canterbury. The Wildcats will look to play hard against Stanstead College (Wednesday) and then Holderness (Saturday).
Moving into the #8 spot is Tilton (5-4-3). The Rams beat Millbrook 5-3 and tied Canterbury 2-2 over the weekend. They get Holderness (Wednesday) and North Yarmouth Academy (Saturday).
