Girls D2 Prep Top 10: Brooks-St.Georges, Rivers-Worcester Academy Games Highlight Week Ahead

Brooks continues to lead the pack in this week’s HNIB News Girls D2 Prep Top 10. The Bishops had a big win over Thayer (4-2) and then battled hard against D1 power Nobles, falling 3-1. The Bishops get two ranked clubs this week, Holderness (Wednesday) and St. George’s (Saturday).

A solid week pushes Rivers (11-4-1) up to #2. The Red Wings, led by the scoring exploits of senior Kaitlin Shaughnessy, edged Tilton (4-3) and blanked Kents Hill (7-0).  They also have a big one this week, a Wednesday trip to #4 Worcester Academy. Rivers then has a pair of D1 opponents on the weekend, Milton on Friday and St. Mark’s on Saturday.

Prior to Saturday’s showdown with Brooks, #3 St. George’s (8-3-4) hosts BB&N on Wednesday. The Dragons fell to Nobles (5-0) and were tied up by Berwick (2-2) this past week.

Worcester hung in with D1 Winchendon Sunday before falling 6-4. A win Wednesday will be huge. Saturday’s opponent is BB&N.

#5 Kimball Union (10-5-2) picked up a win over Brewster Academy and then was tied by Proctor (1-1). The Wildcats get Exeter Wednesday and then a return matchup Friday with #6 Berwick (14-6-2). The Bobcats knocked off NYA (4-3) before the tie with St. Georges. They will face Hebron on Wednesday and Portsmouth Abbey on Saturday as well.

#7 Thayer (10-7-0) split its games, slipping past Tilton (2-1) for its win. The Tigers are at Governors Academy (Wednesday) and Lawrence Academy (Saturday).

#8 Holderness (9-7-2) fell to Hebron (5-2) and had a tie with NYA (1-1). The Bulls will see Hoosac on Friday after their shot at top-ranked Brooks.

#9 Vermont Academy (8-7-2) had wins over Proctor and Northfield, sandwiched around a loss to Hill School. Another three-game week sees the Wildcats face Tilton (Wednesday), Kents Hill (Friday) and Hoosac (Saturday).

New to the rankings this week is #10 Groton (9-8-3). The Zebras face Nobles (Wednesday) in their only action this week.
