A huge Girls D2 Prep early-season battle took place over the weekend when top-ranked Brooks faced off with #2 Rivers. A goal in the final minute gave the Bishops a 3-2 win and cemented their #1 ranking in this week’s HNIB News Girls D2 Prep Top 10.

It will be a tough week for the Bishops (7-0-1). Monday they take on D1 #7 Phillips Andover, then they will host D1’s #1 team, Tabor Academy, on Wednesday. Another D1 opponent – Lawrence Academy – will be Saturday’s foe.

Rivers, now 5-2-0, won the Dexter Southfield tournament over the break. The Red Wings also venture into the D1 waters, travelling to Nobles Monday and then Winchendon on Saturday. In between, Rivers takes on #3 St. George’s (4-2-2).

The Dragons also look ahead to a pair of weekend games with Dexter Southfield (Friday) and Kents Hill (Saturday).

#4 Greenwich Academy (5-3-1) knocked off defending D2 champion Vermont Academy on Saturday. The Gators face Hotchkiss on Wednesday and then Canterbury on Friday.

#5 Worcester Academy (7-2-1) tied up St. Mark’s (2-2) before being upset by Middlesex (5-3). The Hilltoppers look to get back on track Wednesday in a tough matchup with Phillips Exeter. They get Groton (Friday) and Portsmouth Abbey (Saturday).

Off since mid-December, #6 Kimball Union (4-3-1) doesn’t get back to game action until a Saturday date with Holderness.

#7 Canterbury (5-3-1) and #8 Tilton (4-2-2) played to a scoreless tie Sunday. The Saints have a full week with games against Millbrook (Wednesday), Greenwich (Friday) and Hill School (Saturday). The Rams face Holderness Wednesday and Brewster Academy Saturday.

Losses to Holderness and Greenwich Academy drop Vermont Academy to #9 this week. The Wildcats look for a big week against Gunnery (Wednesday), Pingree (Friday) and Milton Academy (Saturday).

Berwick makes an appearance at #10. The Bobcats are coming off impressive wins over Middlesex (5-1) and Proctor (3-0). Governors Academy (Wednesday) and Thayer (Friday) are this week’s opponents.
