All eyes will be on the New England Sports Center on Wednesday when the top two teams in the HNIB News Girls Division 2 Prep poll will faceoff. #1 Rivers travels to #2 Worcester Academy for a 4pm start, with D2 bragging rights on the line.

The teams are heading into the contest in different ways. The #1 Red Wings (11-6-1), still unbeaten at the D2 level, lost a pair of one-goal games to D1 opponents: Tabor (3-2) and Milton Academy (1-0). After the Worcester contest, Rivers will see two more D1 foes in Cushing (Friday) and St. Mark’s (Saturday).

The Hilltoppers (13-3-2), on the other hand, are fresh off the school’s first-ever win over Southfield, and a 2-1 verdict of Winchendon. St. George’s (Friday) and Vermont Academy (Saturday) loom after the showdown.

#3 Southfield (9-3-2) rebounded from the loss to Worcester with a 3-1 win over Middlesex. They get Winchendon (Wednesday) before a key D2 clash with Proctor (Friday).

#4 Canterbury (9-3-2) split a pair of non-league games outside of New England, falling to Lawrenceville (4-0) and beating Hill School (7-0) the next night. The Saints get D1’s top-ranked team – Kent – on Wednesday, then have Hebron Saturday in a battle between two ranked clubs.

It is back to D2 opponents for #5 Gunnery (5-7-1). The Highlanders take on Millbrook (Wednesday) and Kingwood (Saturday). This past week, they fell 3-0 to D1 Loomis Chaffee in their only action.

#6 Berwick (16-1-2) keeps plugging along. A tie with Proctor (1-1) was sandwiched between wins over NYA (3-0) and Beaver Country Day (6-0). Monday’s foe (weather permitting) is Newton Country Day, followed by a big one with #7 Hebron (13-7-0) on Wednesday and a game with Brooks (Friday).

The Lumberjacks picked up a pair of wins over Holderness (2-1) and Middlesex (4-2) this past week. After Berwick, they take on Canterbury Saturday (at Phillips Exeter), so two ranked teams on this week’s slate.

It will be another three-game week for #8 Proctor (11-5-1). The Hornets posted wins over Vermont Academy (4-0) and Kimball Union (1-0) around the Berwick tie. This week, it’s Brewster Academy (Wednesday), Southfield (Friday) and Holderness (Saturday).
